starting problems
« on: March 15, 2008, 08:38:15 AM »
a question for all you grand cherokee drivers, just did an engine swap on a 93 gc i6 all went well, the jeep started and ran, then when it came time to drive it further it chugged to a stop and now will turn over but not fire??
could it be the ecu, do i need the ecu from the doner jeep as one is a sport and the other is a laredo
why would it run then all of a sudden stop, i have replaced ignition coil, checked all ground wires and straps, could the factory immobilizer have something to do with it, there seems to be no spark getting to the coil from the wiring harness, does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this as its getting very frustrating and im almost out of time to get it going

regards
darren

I know something....  ;D

Maybe try a larger forum, and you may have a quicker response.

I'd swap the ECU...really easy to do....three bolts each, right?

I didn't say that...
you may have a quicker response.

This forum has only a hand full of people come through each day (some who know there way around a Jeep VERY well), But other forums like jeepin.com or jeepforum.com have hundreds of people online each day. You were saying that you needed to fix it quickly so I was just suggesting something that may speed this along.  ;)

Try NAGCA or www.mallcrawlin.com

Instead of waiting for responses, there might be a thread there if you search.  Could be the cps, not sure.

Likely the crank sensor but you may want to look at the auto shutdown relay . Get a buddy to cycle the key while you place your finger on the relays , you should feel them click.   Could be the cam position sensor too.

Do you have 12 volts to the coil ?

hey jeff, how are ya man, im getting the pulse feed to the coil but apparrently there also has to be a permanent live too, today im gonna change the crank sensor as they are a little twitchy and dont like being disturbed, im also gonna try and bypass the coil from the ignition , just incase its getting no signal at that source,

thx for the input

Is the factory security system killing the iginition? Do you have the factory fobs for decactivaing the system(same fob for remote door unlock).

does that engine have that ceramic resistor type block that is mounted on the inner fender... cause if that is disconnected then the engine will not run..... that is if the 93 engine still uses that or if it was only the renix equip engines that had it.... could be an idea
