Rear Bumper Build

Started my new rear bumper today.  Me thinks it is gonna look good.

Here are some pics:








I am going to finish the other side tommorrow & plate it in for the finished look.  The trailer reciever on the right side is for a swing away tire carrier that is removeable for mall crawlin.

X2 on the receiver idea!good idea when not on trail. good lines to the whole set-up as well. looks a little heavy... but that happens in the 4x4 world sometimes. even my garvin swing out isnt a lite weight!

You are right about the heavy part.  I was going to build one out of a 1/4 plate carcass and then wrap it in 8 guage steel, but figured that would dent if smashed up against something.  This bumper is 100% dent proof & I estimate that it only weighs about 100 lbs. more than my first idea and in the grand scheme of a vehicle 100lbs is not much sacrifice to have a bomb proof bumper.  The other nice part is that I could tie tubing to any part of the bumper for tail light guards or fender guards.

cut holes in some spots to lighten it up  a little. of course spots that wont do much protecting!

Decided to drop the removable carrier idea.  Didnt work out all that well.  Almost finished here are some pics.

You should consider changing this to a double sheer, as single sheers tend to break...and at the worst times...like driving down the highway... :o :o :o

I didn't think that I would have a problem with a 1250lb spindle.  My only concern was the weld breaking.  Should I worry about the spindle?
