Off Road Trailer

I am getting a trailer frame from a friend. It is a tent trailer out of the early 80's but the nothing is anygood except for the frame.
I want to build a trailer that I can take into the bush for trail projects and also use it as utility trailer.
Some of the plans are to put 33 or 35s on it for tiers. I was thinking 4 feet wide and 8 feet long So I can carry a standart 2x4. I was also thinking of running slider bars from the axles to the front and to the rear so it would slide up and over stuff.
If anyone has any ideas and pics of trailers they have built I would love to here them.

I haven't built one myself but a guy I met offroad a couple years ago had a tent trailer that he did some mods to.  His trailer had leaf springs so he converted them to the top side of the axle.  For the hitch he had a swiveling pintle hitch.  I was totally awesome the way it would maneuver over the terrain.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to run a pental hitch for sure.
For length and width was going to have it so I can put a 4x8 sheet of plywood on the inside and close the end gate.
I was also going to have it so I can put a tarp over the top to make the box water tit. I have not figged this one out yet, so if there is any suggestions post them up.

Have you measured the trailer yet? I had an old tent trailer that I converted to use as a utility trailer. It had a 6X6 box. Too wide for most trails and the springs were pretty light.

Back half of a step-side pick up - box is 4X8 , you can take the fenders off  for tight trails, good strong frame
Use the same diff as you run in you unit, then if you have issues you would have a spare. Just a thought

I have not measured it yet. But I already know it is too wide as is I'm going to narrow it. I am not going to be any wider they my XJ.

Had a truck box trailer once, heavy SOB! Would not suggest getting one unless your Jeep has a Cummins!

I agree but if he has a tube frame already, a stepside truck box would tif the bill nicely. Most long box stepsides are 8 X 4 and the fender can be taken off for tight trails.

I converted an old tent trailer to a utility trailer and by the time I was done I had so much time and money into it I wish I would have never started on this project.  If I was to do it over I would go to PA and check out axle prices and just custom build from scratch.
