Damn roads!!!
« on: April 19, 2008, 10:12:16 PM »
WOW!!!

I poop BRICKS!!!

Came back from Grande Prairie today,.. roads were clear until Edmonton.

This happened about 3-5 mins south on the #2 from Edmonton.

roads seemed clear,.. everyone was doing the limit,.. so I kept up,..

All of a sudden I felt a big gust of wind,.. then my arse end kicks out

"OH fudge"

I scream accross the fast lane from the centre lane and launched off the hwy,.. at a little less than a buck 10.

Down a 25-30ft embankment and hit hard on the flat,.. I thought for sure I was gonna roll over,.. but maybe the angle i was going down was just right for me to not flip!

Lucky for me it's a jeep,.. and I 4wheeled it back up the embankment and onto the hwy,.. pulled to the opposite side too examine if there was any damage,.. and there appeared to be none

the rest of the trip home i stayed between 95 and 100 in the slow lane,.. LOL

(then i changed my shorts)

yeah, i went over to a buddies house last night. and he lives on the same street as i do, i mean no more then 1 minute in a straight line and it took me 15 minutes!! i backed out of the driveway and was done. couldnt move!! i had to keep tapping the gas to slide it into this gravel patch across the street, then drive on the left hand side going south.

I went off the road just south of Red deer on Hwy #2 southbound about 6-7 yrs ago in a freak storm.  I was going just under 100km/hr, then the back end went out to the right, I took my foot off the gas as I corrected myself and then the backend came all the way around left and I went off to the right off the highway doing doughnuts, missing a hwy sign by less than an a foot and ended in the bottom of the ditch.  I sat in the S-10 for about 5 mins because I was shaking so much, then I did the walk around and found nothing was damaged.  I walked about 200 feet back to the sign and my tire tracks were less than 12" from the sign, and those sign posts looked beefy.

It was one of those storms that came out of nowhere, it was sunny north of Red Deer and 10 minutes later there about 8" of snow on the ground.  There was a Chevy pick up a few hundred feet in fron of me that went off the road about the same time.  Yes, damn highways indeed.

Yesterday we had a great time on the chili run.   everything was great,  fresh snow.  good wheeling,  good company, great chili....

but after the chili lunch,   Mrjeep4 and us decided to leave early,  i had to meet my brother coming into town.   well we got off the trail, aired up and at the last corner before the first loading station,   slipped out going around the corner.   yikes i corrected about 4 times and eventually hit the ditch,  ran down a little tree, and aimed for a field approach. We  made the approach,  but as i did that, the rear of the jeep swung out i side swiped a tree.  this field approach had a group of drunk guys random camping.  It scared them  a bit running almost into there camp site  Luckily it wasnt too hard and we were not hurt, Pregnant wife, and i are just fine :) the family Jeep has a bit more character now.

Drivers side rear tire hit the tree,  piece of wood was in the bead.  tub is tweaked a  little,  flare is crushed and fuel filler trim is smashed, drivers side hard top window is smashed and rear gate lock wont unlock and lastly passenger rear tire went flat.

We got into town about the same time as my brother. it took him 10 hours to drive from Regina to Calgary.   He hit the ditch too but was towed out by a passer by. i guess the highway was full of cars that had slid off.

thirdly my niece almost hit the ditch because a horse ran onto the road in front of her in Regina.   what a  day!

time for some new glass

Glad to hear that you are both fine Dave. That sounds like a scary ending to what was a good day of wheeling.
