Replacing rear sway bar end links??
« on: May 01, 2008, 02:35:35 PM »
the bushings for my stock rear endlinks are worn (getting about 1/4 inch of play approx) and make a fair bit of noise. I want to replace them but dont like the idea of spending $35 each on the original plastic peices of junk. I do have a 2 inch OME lift, and was doing some looking around, and Modern sells the rubicon express rear end links for $45/pair (so the guy on the phone says). What confuses me is that the specs say the following:

The RE1150 & RE1155 extended
rear endlinks are direct replacements
for the stock units and will
accommodate 3.5" to 5" of lift.

I'm neither stock nor between 3.5-5 inch of lift. So would these end links still work for me?

I will sell you my stock ones for $20 if you want. I took my whole sway bar and links completely off, I dont run them at all. Some people will probably say thats dangerous, and it probably might be, but it's the front sway bars that seem to control 90% of body roll.

Heck I've been missing a front end link for a couple of months and other than some more ody roll in corners it's fine...even on the highway at 130.

I was missing one of my fronts for awhile as well, being secure on one side eventually bent my sway bar. I had to use JKS adjustable ones for stock to 2 inches of lift to get them to fit. One side stock level, the other had to be maxed length.

Be careful thou, running no front links severely alters maneuver response time, with dangerous body roll. Personally I would not run intentionally without the front links, and would not run at all if there where no rear or front links. Unless it was a trailered non pavement bush toy.

Thought I'd throw that out there for anyone thinking it was cool to lose them.

Running no rear swaybar is generally okay...no front is down right dangerous if you need to make an evasive manouver. If you get in an accident and your vehicle is fount to have the factory swaybars removed or the links removed/disconnected, you could find yourself in a whole heep of trouble. Not to mention how you would feel if you killed someone because you wanted your Jeep to be cool.

Might wanna keep that in mind.

Well running without a rear swaybar is not something I'd like to do, as I often times have my 2 year old son in the jeep with me. So anyone know if the rubicon express ones will work with a 2 inch lift?
