XJ steering parts

Ok I got some steering parts bent this passed weekend. I am curios of what others are running for up graded parts and approximant costs. I have a 95 XJ. And don’t really want to put PYP stuff back on and gust bend it agene

dude    you r hard on that xj . 2 runs and whats the list of broken stuff?
im still useing stock stuff but i think i  need to start beefin up the steering stuff now that im runnin 36in tires.
so ya im no help to ya there. 
the stock stuff should be good enough for the 31in rubber, gotta watch what u r winchin your jeep thru\over\around... thats probly how u bent it.

The list is a blown upper rad tube, bent rocker, burnt out winch, bent drag link and bent track bar.
I am asking what others are running to see if this is a common thing to bend or am I gust special. ( and yes I am special in other ways to ). I don't like fixing the same thing over and over and I don't know how hard it is to find the parts , I would rather up grade to after market or modify stock to be stronger.

bent track bar isn't too difficult.  did it myself winching out of a hole while xjwrencher did multiple puls in 2nd gear.  can get stronger irons and will help.  also can look into high steer setups to move your steering higher but dunno what is available (if anything) for xj as I don't own one.

Hey man. on my xj we put a rubicon express trackbar and bracket, they are alot more beefy than stock and have been working good so far. As far as the other steering parts I am still looking. if you find something good than please let me know.

I went with the rugged ridge hd steering conversion kit . It is not a high steer but it way beefer then stock. Biggest improvement came when i installed winch bumper with the steering box tie bracket.

i have been doing a bit of research on the steering for a dana 30 setup... this one has some potential .... high steer, 1 ton tie rod ends, probably could sub in solid bar for the tubing... but the something else has to give somewhere else...  I am currently running the rock krawler xfactor setup on the ZJ.. super beefy - 1.5" and 1.25" dia solid bars for the tie rod and the drag like respectively... the only problem is the hiem joints

other one include the currie setup... again big increase over stock but has the stock configuration ( the inverted y design )

Hey Aaron!!

I'm with Lindz on this one.  I had the Rubicon Express chromoly tierod bar & RE1600 tracbar on my XJ after having bent mine.  No problem after that but one suggestion would be that if you're eventually going to add more lift get the HD RE tracbar with bracket.  If sticking with the lift you have just go with the RE1600 but consider the Evolution heim joint as an upgrade.  The joint it comes with wears out pretty quick.  I was going to put the Evo joint on mine but sold the XJ before I got it done.  Dan has the joint now if ya wanna see one....they're beefy!

if you will invest in a track bar from RE.. buy the extreme duty one.

Don't bother with the 1600!...

Go with the 1660 ! Heim joint are not made for Alberta Wheeling... the 1660 comes with a bushing and a greasable joint (like a RE style johnny joint)... I would also recommend to bolt and weld the track bar bracket (RE 1665) that comes with the system.

There are numerous sources  for complete steering system upgrades from places like Currie,etc.

Here's what I mix-and-matched on my Comanche.

C-ROK inner steering box bracket. This will save your steering box from ripping out of your frame.
Home made outer steering box frame bracket.  You do not  need this because your bumper is tied to your steering  box.
Steering box brace rod. Proably not necessary if you have the above two but is cheap insurance.
RE-Trackbar. Awesome addition.
Heavy Duty Tierod.  Your stock tierod is cheap hollow piece of metal. This a great upgrade.
New tie-rod ends because they are cheap and easy.

If you upgrade the TB get a kit that replaces the upper mount. The tapered hole often gets hollowed out and no matter how much you tighten down that nut it still wobbles.

If you are going to ream your knuckles for 1ton TREs you can get evolution to drill/tap Dom to accept the Chevy 1ton TREs. Just provide the measurements and they'll cut/drill/tap it for you.  That's the route I went for my D44.

I just grabbed a tie rod from a V8 ZJ at the junkyard....just gotta source out some new TRE's for it at a reasonable price.  Auto Value was expeeensive..
