Hello everyone, I have (Had) a 2004 Jeep TJ Sport. Recently, just before the beautiful May Long Weekend a Honda Odesyy rear ended me! Before the comments come out about female drivers I'll stop you right now, He wasn't paying attention which he fully admits. So needless to say, the Appraiser has just looked at it this week and body wise there is $8000.00 worth of body damage. Thank God I was in a jeep as he hit me between 65 and 75 km/hr. My Jeep absorbed all of the impact for the most part. I faired well , but the jeep didn't. They havent started looking at the mechanical yet to decide if they are going to write my jeep off.  :( I should find out this week. My problem and my biggest concern is I have put so much money into this jeep baiscally all the payments for owning a jeep .. Does anyone know how I can recoup that and what happens when they write my jeep off. I have been told by a few people that they will just try and get me what the black book value is. Is this true??
 >:( :( :o ??? :-\ :'(

no.  they will give you 'fair market' value.  i printed out many adds for vehicles like ours, all over the web.  ranged from 8 to 10k depending on location, little higher in quebec for some reason...

TJ's have a pretty good resale and part out price so should do OK.  if it's modded then can buy it back and part it out if buy price isn't much... ie more work than money made etc.

also helps it will be his insurance company paying out not yours, less trouble (unless they are the same company).  can also look up on google about unsatisfactory offers and arbitration or whatever they call it.  so you can go in prepared.

when they call, take notes of what they offer and buyback etc. then say thanks, i will contact you.  take some time to think about it with no pressure.

I had a 97 TJ that got smoked on the front DS...lots of damage that totaled $11000. They opted to fix it (it was only a month old).

Eastside Dodge fixed it and I never had a single problem with it after that, but I was sure they would write it off.

You'll probably be suprised.

When I had my Olds written off I got a fair price. Of course, I would rather have had my car repaired but no such luck  :'(
I went to the appraiser the insurance company picked and I was there pointing out every thing that was perfect with her before the big crunch. All the guy kept saying was 'I know, I know'. Don't settle if you don't think it's right.

Get a few quotes, sleep on it, and good luck. Accidents are never fun to deal with.

Well I am still waiting Patiently for them to come back with the mechanical quote. The body shop has stated that If we do go ahead and fix the jeep (this is as of last wednesday) That it would take till August sometime to fix.. Now that means no top off, no mud, no nothing.. How depressing.. Wel I shall wait and see. Ill keep you posted. I refuse to settle cause like most jeep owners, there is a reason for having a jeep. If they write it off I guess Ill have to look at the new ones.. Some of the Rubi's I have seen lately are nice .. ..

Yak soon

If the body shop says August you are doing pretty good, I have heard alot of places talking about mid to late september. Ask around maybe you can find a backyard type to do the work quicker. The last time I had a claim, I took the money they said it would cost to do the repairs, Found someone cheaper, cut back on some of the work done. I ended up getting a decent job and had a few hundred dollars in my pocket. It was a while back though, I'm not sure if the insurance companies still work that way.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

Well It's Official. They say it will Cost 10K to fix my jeep. The insurance company is pushing to fix it.. ARGHHH I Don't feel comfortable with that Idea. as well then it isnt the same .. Its controlled by someone I dont know or trust. I do know that because of this on the financial side, they will fix it and it wont be worth as much as it was before the accident. I am really bothered over the financial side of this and the fact that no one is willing to guaruntee the work on my jeep. So the second I sign off on it, if it messes up becuase of something they did .. I am screwed! Damn it all anyways! Im So frustrated !!!!

But I did find an 07 with 32000 km on it ..  Burgandy and they are a bit more bigger inside than the 04.. I will just wait it out ...

you can choose where it gets repaired.  and what makes you think they wont warranty repairs?  if you are so frustrated, tell the insurance company to give you the $10G's and the jeep.  part it out and can afford another 04 with no accident record.  either way it's a pain.  it always is.

Didn't know you could do that. Apparently I could also tell them to just write it off.  Who knew hahaha.  I cant do the part out one cause I have no Garage to take it to. But I will see what the insurance company is willing to do..

The reason I say they wont warrenty the jeep is because When I asked If anything goes wrong with the areas that have been fixed and it breaks after I take it home and have signed the papers. Will it be fixed or is it my responsibility and the Adjuster said it was my responsibility.

Well I am going to make them jump through hoops. The insurance company must gurantee all the repairs and everything they miss, by law. (Talked to the Lawyer) They havent called me yet as to discuss what needs to be done now. I start my new job Back in the Hat in July. Some of the places I will be going to in the winter time get tricky I want to be able to trust that my jeep wont die on me because this jerk hit me..  So now I am waiting to see if they will buy it and I will get a new to me jeep .. We shall wait and see.. What really sucks is look at all the mud out there and I am stuck driving a car  :(

As for the parting it out.. I would consider that if I had a vehicle to drive, but as my jeep is my main source of travel I need to have a vehicle. Also the fact that I dont have a garage, kinda puts a damper on that I dea, even if I had a car to drive lol ..
