I have been slowly working to get the Grand Floppy back on the road since i have moved to sask last september... at that time it was mainly just replacing some parts that were worn or required upgrading, building a rear bumper, fender flares and such.  But the government issurance company here, SGI ... meaning publicly owned... has passed new legislation on Raised Vehicles >:(.  As it stands right now, my ZJ doesn't stand a chance of being street legal without some serious investment in time and money >:(.  My list of things that have to be done has grown to the point that i may just sell it or part it out. >:(

All of the people that work out in the oilfield and drive those nice lifted diesels on 35" plus tires are screwed  :o they don't meet bumper height requirements and exceed the maximun tire size of 34".   :o

it is unfortunate that i probably wont be able to enjoy driving my mildly lifted Jeep on what some people who have never been here have termed the FLATLANDS :(

Thats brutal!  I took a quick scan through the document and it looks like alot of us would be illegal.

"homebuilt control arms, radius arms, panhard bars, torque bars, track bars, stabilizer/sway bars, saddles, hangers and mounts are prohibited"
"not have spring shackles that are longer than those specified by the vehicle manufacturer"

I think the big dodges etc are not affected as their gvwr are 10+ tons or more  ...  probably (?) a std 1/2 ton or smaller is under the 11500 they are targeting ...

geeze thats a long document and hard to read,  I see law writers left themselves loopholes by using terms like  'at the descetion of peace officers'  so they can single out specific types of vehicles I suppose ...

whats happening in Sask since this went into effect,  4x community getting a feel for enforement ?

if your submitted to a yearly vehicle inspection then that will be trouble - inspections are good to keep the general populations vehicles safe like brakes and lights etc - but a quality lifted well maintained jeep is also targeted here ,  and in alta that would be a cash cow for the private sector in general ( not just targeting 4x but all 2million alta vechiles or whatever the count is )  if they lobbied gov to do it and the gov would be glad to keep it privatized like registries ... my thoughts anyway

What are they going to consider "excessively raised"?  I think that all of us here know what ours Jeeps can do and what is safe, maybe a limit of 6" of lift would work?

Read the legislation from Sask and it talks all about it.  Lift block, body lifts, shackle lifts limitations, etc.

i have read the ACT a couple of more times and got a better understanding of what it involves.  on thing that they will look for  is whne you lifted the vehicle did you widden the track... they are saying that a truck lifted 6" needs to have a 13" wider track to maintain its static rollover restistance.  also if you can fit 34" tires( max allowed unless factory spec ) with zero lift, then all they would really be looking for is a braking test nad to ensure that the steering and suspension have no binding or tires make contact with any of the suspension or body work.... hmmmmm the latest Jp ... they fit 40" on a YJ with no lift :o......  gears are turning ;D

We are, although, waiting for the official release from SGI.

Sherry Wolfe - VP of SGI Auto Group has contacted us directly with these changes.
