31's on stock YJ
« on: June 07, 2008, 08:14:05 PM »
So much debate, i guess is over that,.. I went out and bought a set.

Then I read a whole bunch and searched a whole lot, much to my surprise, there is a big debate about what you can fit on a stock yj

The tires I got were a set of TrXus's on stock jeep tj rims - came from a lifted tj  -  31x10.5x15

I thought I might have to trim the flares, but to my surprise, everything seems fine.

To end the debate i read,.. 31's do fit

This is from my phone and its raining out,.. but it's definitely looking better

I know I can't go lock to lock on the steering otherwise the inners will rub on the leaf springs

believe it or not, but i only have about 2.5inches of lift on my yj and i have 33" tires with aftermarket offset wheels. dont really rub much unless full lock and full "flex".
sometimes you gotta ignore the internet flap jawwing and just do it yourself and find out the hard way;)

Same here i ran 31's under a stock suspension on my yj but they did rub on my rear fender flares so i went with a 2.5 inch rubicon express lift just the basic lift i paid 774 for the whole lift and it came with every thing i needed. But i will be doing a 3 inch body lift and then i am going to be puting 33's by 12.5. a 3 inch body lift is only 140 bucks and comes with everything needed as to what john says at national 4wd

If you put on some 0.5-1" lift shackles and a 1-2" body lift you will be better off than a 3" body lift

A lot has to do with how saggy the stock springs are.  Also I guarantee as soon as you go off the beaten path the rears are going to rub a lot, and if you disconnect the front swaybar, you will have lots of rubbing.  I ran 31s with the OME lift (2.5") and rubbed at full flex.

The reason people suggest not to run 31s on the sotck suspension is because as soon as you cycle the springs in offroad application the tires rub.  Now if you just plan on keeping it on the street, then you will have not problems

you make a good point about the shackles and i find i have that problem at full flex with the 2.5 inch lift i did run 31's under stock set up and my springs where getting a pretty good negative arch to them so they did rub alot to the point of wearing out my fender flare a lil but no biggy.
