Where's a good tranny shop?
« on: June 21, 2008, 02:37:34 PM »
I'm looking for a tranny shop to rebuild my 42re out of my 98 ZJ... I'm planning to put a shift kit in it for towing and a little bit more sporty, on-its-toes feeling... I'm looking for someone with a good rate and a good quality.

There's a place by my house called The Transmission Specialists (just off Macleod, down south by Avenida Mall, between Anderson and Canyon Meadows Drive) and he sounds like a quality guy.  I'm just wondering if anyones been to him or if they can recomend someone else who gave them good service.

Thanks!

I've had 2 transmisions done at Ram's in Forest lawn , never had any problems with either of them.

Are you willing to pull the tranny yourself ? I know a guy who would do an awesome job at a good price. He just doesn't have room to park vehicles.
It won't be quick. But it will be a very good job,

Dominion Auto Transmission hands down!!!  Ask for Jim & tell him Rob from Courtesy Chrysler refered ya.  Jim has helped me out twice & does most if not all the service work for the boys in blue.  They're just east of Chinook mall on 58 ave.

I've heard good things about dominion already actually... I'll go check them out.  I might be willing to pull it myself... depending on how good of a deal it actually is.  Can I ask how much you all paid for your jobs just to give me an idea of whats a good rate?  Also, I know I already mentioned him, but Russ Stoodley at The Transmission Specialists seems to run a good show and really gave me the time of day answering all my half-informed, sometimes misconcieved questions.  He also guessed the price range to be lower than most and explained at lot about what has to be done.  I think his rate is $80/hr.  Is this rate normal? And, again, has anyone heard anything good or bad about this guy?

Thanks guys!
