i think scott did that exact swap! im gonna say yes, new motor mounts and maybe frame mounts as well. scott (blackyj) had this done on his YJ, but im not certain which drivetrain he had before the swap. good upgrade though.

87 to 90 had the Renix management system so the 90 computer and wiring will also have to be swapped in.

I have done the swap with a XJ drivetrain.  The best is to find a donor that is very close to the year of your YJ.  I got lucky and found a 94 XJ that I used in my 95 YJ.

The frameside motor mount DO have to be moved and you will need the computer for the donor.  It is not as simple as it sounds but it can be done.  If you have more questions, just let me know

we (father and i) have an 87 yj that had the 2.5l in it, took that out and swapped a 4.0l into ouf of a 90 xj. the 2.5 was a standard. the 4.0 is an auto. so we did quite a bit of fabricating to make everything fit just right. Mostly the 4wd linkage. motor mounts had to be moved back aswell. wiring harness and everything came out of the cherokee and straight into the yj. only thing we dont have is a speedo and gas gauge. hense..mr.jerry can
