Rear Main Oil Seal
« on: October 02, 2005, 04:29:11 PM »
Tonight I plan to change the rear main oil seal in my 89 YJ with the 4.2.

I forgot my tech book at work and was wondering if anyone here has the torque specs for:

     Oil pan bolts
     Oil pump bolts
     Crankshaft bearing caps

Thanks in advance.

In the FSM for my 98 TJ, it list the torques the same for the 2.5L and the 4.0L.  I am told that the 4.2 and 4.0 are essentially the same motor.  Here they are:

Oil Pan Bolts: 1/4 - 20 bolts 84 in. lbs.
                   5/16 - 18 bolts 132 in. lbs.
                   Drain Plug 25 ft. lbs.

Oil Pump Bolts: Short Attaching Bolts 204 in. lbs.
Long Attaching Bolts 204 in. lbs.
                      Cover Bolts 70 in.lbs

Main Bearing Caps:  Bolts 80 ft. lbs
