Just wondering what evryone else has done to improve air flow on their 4.o s........I didn't realize how restrictive the inlet tube was until I tied in my ARB compressor !!!
I'm working on something new and should have it done tomorrow...will post pics then.

you can improve the air flow with a Avenger Supercharger

4L cold air intake increases hp/torque , headers/exhaust usually same , I havent seen anything credible todo with throttle body swapping on a 4L that was worth the $ - the article below for a 2000 4L dyno'ed suggests even a stroker can easily feed on the flow provided by the stock tb unit ?

So this is what I have come up with........( Thanks go out to Dava ( Calltrex) for the hood venting idea !
) One side now lets the hot air out, and the other lets the cool air into the box. Anyways, what I have done is constuct an air box out of sheet aluminum, which seals to the bottom side of the vent installed in the hood. ...this allows only cooler air to be drawn directly into the air cleaner element, it also effectively raises the height of the air inlet ( I hate snorkles
) So I guess it's kinda similar in principle to the shaker hood scoops on the old Boss mustangs !!!
just not sticking up through the hood...

Does the filter sit flush with the bottom of the box, or is it raised slightly to prevent any mudwater from filling in it from the hood vents?
Im picturing an old Trans Am style shaker scooping coming through my hood......

I like it - that looks pretty clever, stock/aftermarket all use the tube as an easy way to plumb in the crankcase gases but I see you took care of that too - nice - the tube I guess would also provide a small amount of prefiltered air but I dont know how that would matter , drivabilty and before/after gas mileage would confirm your success ?
to bad dyno's are readily available or cheap to use, saw one on tv last weekend that was portable they were hauling out to auto events ... that be cool to do some real before/after tests ...
hey - I had my KnN sitting on the hood drying just a couple of weeks ago overtop the TB area thinking that be a cool shaker hood type tractor looking setup but of course totally exposed like that unlike your setup wouldnt be good ...

The filter element is 1" above the bottom of the air box...............I had already thought about rain/snow issue so there is a 1/2" hole at lowest point with tube to drain any residual water that enters.
The other clear tube is the pre filtered air inlet to my ARB compressor, so that it does not have to digest any dirt either.
