Red Deer

Well everyone I guess that I have a very strong possibility that my position at work is going to be moved to Red Deer. I can quite or move with it.
So I know very little about Red Deer can anyone tell me about the town the good, the bad and the ugly

Without sounding too prejudiced, from what my friends and relatives who lived there, plus some of who I work with have said over the last year....  Hickville, major drug problems and boring as whale feces...   but I can't speak from personal experience, so take all of that with some big grains of salt, they may just be unloading their frustrations when talking to me.

OTOH, in the summer, you are closer to Sylvan Lake and Rocky and the ECO offroad club and real estate isn't as bad pricewise....   so there may be balancing influences :D  I do know one guy who works there who loves it, tho he lives out of Red Deer per se.

Criminals and Psychos don’t bother me I grew up in Kingston Ontario, 12 prisons including the max and super max, plus the corrections psyche department. My Father was a Corrections Officer at Millhaven (where the worst of the worst go).
Also drugs and crime Calgary is in the middle of a gang war right now.

Hence the reason we moved outta town. I love it out here, so quiet... except when we are turning wrenches on the Jeeps.

I recently spent a few weekends staying there while my boyfriend did the huge LED Traffic Light swap. Its full of richies who own really super nice cars and drive them all over town (maybe to most people they're invisible but they're so there!) ... it doesn't have much for a night life but then again I doubt you and your wife are party animals.... there are quite a few pavement princesses out there.. and the people are... meh.. some rude, some nice, some dirty, some clean... it's got some good customer service and some crappy customer service...

some perks are - Sylvan Lake being literally 15 -20 minutes away, Gaetz avenue runs all the way through (major strip) ...

I mean its not much more different from any other city and its fairly developed (i'm surprised to say) ... but in red deer your also halfway between Edmonton and Calgary.. which means you can participate in both jeeping communities its double the fun :)

It's not that far. Best advice is take a drive up and spend a few days over a weekend. Then you will get a feel for the place. Like any City there will be good and bad areas. Take your time finding the right one.

You will just have to get up two hours earlyer to go on CJA jeep runs.

Another consideration is house prices, not sure what they are today but a few years ago, it was the most expensive place to live in Alberta, next to Fort McMurray.

Hey
We went you to Red Deer yesterday and had some extended family show us around. Is like every other city, good parts and bad parts. Very family oriented. Nolan was saying they live in the south and he works outside the city in the north and it only takes him 20 min to get to work in rush hour. The best is I would be the same distance to run with the CJA or the EJC. Still don’t know if we are going with the stuff that is going on at work I may want to move anyway. Gust have to wait and see.
