Anyone want to comment on the strength of this setup?

I should explain better....will the drop part of the hitch hold up to a tow strap? Obviously from the way they are attaching it to the frame, that part has strength. Just wondering about the part where the ball attaches onto the hitch.

He replaced them with Grade 8 bolts.

How does bolting a hitch receiver become less solid than a bolted tow hook?

And honestly....I'm asking about the end of the drop hitch....not how it's mounted.

I would think that everything would be rated for 10,000lbs, or so, depending on what drop hitch you purchased. Why wouldn't it be strong enough? If you are concerned with the weld from the shaft (hehehe.... shaft) to the drop.... isn't it rated on the shear strength? as far as I remember.... the pull strength is far stronger than the shear strength. (maybe a welder could pipe in to confirm).
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

Those are things I don't know about.  Towhook thought it was a great idea.  I know it could be bolted to the frame strong enough, and I know the clevis can hold, but will the part where the clevis is attached come off the hitch receiver itself, or snap?

Otherwise, it looks like a great and easy setup.

Makes the bolts too long. (Same problem with body lifts)

Stronger then Grade 5 apparently, time will tell if it's stronger then grade 8.

Serge, how does that affect it, when the same amount of bolt will be going through the hitch receiver?

I don't think the problem lies in the mounting....just need to figure out about the pull and shear strength.

Not to call you wrong P-Dubb, but bolting is the way to go. Do not weld your towpoints to the frame rails.

Darcy, as we talked earlier, the amount of force it would take to tug a clevis/shackle through that hitch flat bar would be insane! And, even the welding of the falt bar should hold up to much greater force than we could put on with a tow strap etc.
