My wife's jeep was about 2 years old when she moved here and needed the inspection, the shop said the front rotors had a groove worn in them so they replaced them and not the pads, I'm sure it was a cash grab as I'm sure they couldn't have been that bad, but they sure did squeel after they "fixed" it.

At any rate I just picked up a used D44 from a wrecker knowing one of the axle shaft flanges was bent.  The tubes were fine though.  If you think about it, to bend a tube would require some pretty extreme forces like a bad rear-end crash. I doubt there is anything wrong with it.  Maybe a bent flange but if you didn't notice it before then it can't be that bad.

I looked into getting a new assembly from Chrysler last fall, I was told they don't carry them anymore.  I shouldn't speculate but it's almost like the shop wants to flip your old axle.
This is not 'Nam, this is wheeling.  There are rules.

well now they claim that the ''bent axel'' could be that there is a bushing messed up in the suspension.. does that sound like it could be the issue??

Just read this thread & as a Liscensed Journeyman Technician I have to say that this shop sounds like they are treating you like a "revenue opportunity".  That term is the polite way of saying that they are sh!t heads & they are ripping you off

Just an FYI for everyone:  IT IS ILLEGAL FOR AN AUTOMOTIVE SHOP TO REFUSE THE RELEASE OF A VEHICLE FOR ANY OTHER REASON THAN LACK OF PAYMENT.

In Alberta automotive shops have no ability to hold a vehicle against the customer's will for mechanical reasons.  If your car is a "Death Trap" and you want to fix nothing they have to release your vehicle to you once you pay your bill.  They can call the police or Alberta transportation but that is all they can do and the truth is that in Alberta neither will accomplish much.

This really burns me because it gives all shops & technicians a bad name.  No wonder people hate us more than dentists ;D

I you want the name of a good, trustworthy shop that has some of the cheapest pricing in the city & can do your OOP send me a PM & I will give you the name & number.

On a side note I know the performance group that Smart Automotive belongs to & this managment training group teaches Service writers and Managers to price gouge & then helps them to feel good about it so they can sleep at night.  I would not reccomend any shop that is a member of this performance group.  I know this for a fact because my Wife used to service write for a shop that belongs to the same group, until she got fed up.

I'd say that this place wasn't even going to bother buying you dinner before they got busy with you. Now that you're kicking up a fuss, they're willing to spring for dinner...but they're still after the same thing.

Find a new shop. This one is obviously staffed by or operated by folks who want to stick it to anyone who walks through the door.

You'll be far better served in the long run by finding a shop that will do what you need done...not what will see them make the most money.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(
