Info about the Trail Survey Course

Quote   from Peter Straub

Greetings to everyone interested in building a sustainable recreational trail system!

The Ghost Stewardship Monitoring Group (GSMG) is sponsoring a second Trail Inventory and Design training weekend.

May 1-3, 2009.
Friday Evening in Calgary area,
Saturday 8-5 in the Calgary area,
Sunday 8-5 in The Ghost FLUZ
Exact locations TBA

Trail Inventory is a trail planning process used to create a trail system wherein we define the overall trail objectives, look at what parameters govern the actual terrain the trail will follow, laying out the specific path that a trail will follow, and assessing water courses, soils, slopes and vegetation.  The trail design will attempt to maximize user enjoyment and will ensure the trail will be as much self-sustaining as possible with minimum maintenance and the least environmental impact possible for future generations to enjoy.  Trail Inventory does not involve the actual construction or improvement of a trail.

Trail Inventory process is to be used for:
evaluating and improving existing trails
re-routing trails along a new sustainable path
reclaiming and closing un-sustainable trails
building new trails within the given parameters
improving the recreational experience and opportunities for all users

If you would like to participate, and can read a GPS (GPS units will be provided), have digital camera (please bring your own camera), and record readings from simple instruments (which will be provided), you have the basic skills we require.

Many volunteers have a variety of professional or hobby related skills in specific areas that the may be of great benefit to the tasks of Trail Inventory and Design.  These may be skills or knowledge in biology, forestry, geology, construction, engineering, or even an expertise in a particular form of recreation, computer skills, mapping or fund raising or public relations.  To help us identify any special skills that you may have that could further assist in Trail Inventory and Design, we welcome you to complete this simple resume various skills, and submit the attached Inventory resume.

To reserve your spot in this training, please respond with a completed Inventory Resume to Peter Straub via e-mail to [email protected]

Thank-you

I have a form you will have to fill before taking the course. This form is for them to know what you know in the field.

It's a good course to take and very informative..
