Trail Inventory is a trail planning process used to create a trail system wherein we define the overall trail objectives, look at what parameters govern the actual terrain the trail will follow, laying out the specific path that a trail will follow, and assessing water courses, soils, slopes and vegetation. The trail design will attempt to maximize user enjoyment and will ensure the trail will be as much self-sustaining as possible with minimum maintenance and the least environmental impact possible for future generations to enjoy. Trail Inventory does not involve the actual construction or improvement of a trail.
Trail Inventory process is to be used for:
evaluating and improving existing trails
re-routing trails along a new sustainable path
reclaiming and closing un-sustainable trails
building new trails within the given parameters
improving the recreational experience and opportunities for all users
