New solution to your overheating!!

A buddy of mine that works at a bike/quad/skidoo shop and I were talking about my stupid over heating problems. He told me maybe I should try this new coolant they use called Engine Ice.

So I did some research and this stuff is great!! Too bad my damn rad has a hole in it due to me trying ways to modify the engine bay for heat reduction....

I want to talk to my buddy's at NAPA and see if they will bring it in. I got them to stock Royal Purple, so who knows. I heard it is expensive though... but can you put money on gasket or coolant leaks? How about warped heads? or maybe if your like me your sick of looking at your fricken heat gauge 50 seconds out of every minute?? let alone the toll the environment takes every time more toxic coolant is produced?!

no word on the price yet, but I will see how much more I can find out.

well it's always cheaper for the fluid rather then changing parts, thats a given - 
so just to help out a bit
13 quarts( average coolant cap) is 3.25 gallons
and the price is $90 CAN for 2 gallons
so you need 4 gallons ordered

$180.00 in Engine ice(plus shipping) and you'll have a bit left for top ups

Coolant is expensive no matter what (to me)
If you end up getting this let me know how it work, I've heard it's great in ATV's

I am looking at a company called FlowKooler I saw in a JP mag add section. direct bolt on replacement w/ all brass, copper and steel.

2 Things that caused my Jeep to get hot, one was the ballast resistor, made it run lean (hot) and the other was heater hoses, and small little issues that did not allow it to pressurize properly,... it was way less than $180.00 to fix,.. just my 2 Cents

fraser i have a solution. lets put heat vents (like on teh 5.9) in your hood. bring down ur runnin temp 20 degrees.

its ok, all we have to do is saw holes in your hood. i'm pretty handy with a sawzall

actually I just did that and it doesnt do anything. A vent w/ 1 square foot hole underneath. I was in the process of putting some other vents in the hood when I put my hole in the rad..  idiot! oh well, I figure I'd have to get a new hood to replace my current hood that has that stupid tiger painted on it anyways.

Hesco makes a high flow water pump similar to the FlowKoller, more expensive but better quality.

I have one, works great.

The dirtbike world has mixed reviews regarding this "ICE".
Think about it, your cooling system hits a certain 'danger' temp and the symptom of overheating becomes visible...rad steam.
Now you put something in the system that raises the boiling point so the symptom does not become apparent. How much stress is the rest of the engine/system under now that you have removed the warning?
My bikes never run it for that reason. Ironically, i bought a FAN for my bike. It only comes on when things are too hot. Using ICE messes up that warning system.

So, if it were me with an overheating 4x4, i would check the following:
Water pump
Clutch fan (replace with electric)
Rad...are the fins blocked?
etc.

for sure, that is quite plausible. When I change out my rad I will also do my pump and thermostat.

My Extreme Rad is a brass, copper, steel core and it almost 2" thick, compared to 1-1/4" stock core, and it supposed to be a direct bolt-in but I will let you know after tomorrow
