having a lift on my jeep does not affect my transmission in any way
neither does bigger tired ..

lift may change pinion angles but guess what my drive shafts run into my transfer case then the Tcase is bolted to my trans  no change has happened to my tranmission

bigger tires may cause premature wear on my clutch (not warrenty anyways) and the speedo will be out a few km

so if someone can tell me how the transmission is being damaged by a lift that would be great

as for slamming people  well it is a world of free speech  so if Varisity has a problem with this then maybe they should keep there customers happy . i went in there being super polite calm and my jeep was clean . asked them very nicely to check my trans it wont stay in 4th .
the service writer was a douch bag right from the start .
i stayed calm    waited for the SM to call some bitach .. i stayed calm asked her nicely to explain to me how having a lift would void my trans warrenty . how it may cause premature damage . she couldnt give me a answer

then after 3 days of them BS and a bill for not fixing anythign i now i  it was getting hard to keep my cool .

so i took my jeep ./

The SM at Varsity is solid. He has done lots over the years to help out CJA guys including myself.
He is fair but its all in the approach.
i too have agreed to paying for teardown and diagnosis IF the problem is determined to be a cause of my modifications. i think that is FAIR.
Most times i agreed to that with a big smile, the repairs were fully covered.
i have also brought coffe, wine and other goodies to any dealership i have worked with.
For me, Varsity was awesome as was Tower.

But, i bet slaggin them online will do wonders for your relationship with them.lol.

i wont buy a steelership things for not doing F all for me .. not happeneing .

hey jeff, to say bigger tires has no effect on a tranny is to say hauling a trailer has no effect either on the tranny.  the added weight/load/and tire diameter of the 33s over stock puts more due strain on the driveline as its working harder to push the heavier tires.  the engine works harder as does the tranny because there is more force/resistance (from BOGGERS haha) to turn the tranny as it is. this of course can cause heating issues and things of that nature.

if you plan on dealing with a dealership, swap it all over to stock and put the stock tires on it, and go into another dealership and play dumb.

The tires put more load on the trans, which results in more heat, and potential for more shock loading.

If a rig has been in previously and denied warrenty coverage due to abuse it will be difficult to push anything else through.

If a trans is caked in mud, it retains more heat, and can be subject to skepticism in regards to warrenty issues.

Essentially, due to the equipment on the jeep, and its prior record, they are skeptical to warrenty anything with no questions asked.

They know you wheel, and they know that with the equipment on your rig, your trans could be subject to failure.

What they are saying is, if they pull the unit and find that the problem is operator error, then they want the labor to diagnose it covered by the owner.

At least they are willing to go that far. Some will just flat out deny.

What i mean is that you develop a relationship and part of that development is gifts. Obviously, not at this point when you have never done it and they deny you.
This 'tip' is for the next dealership you work with.

my under carage is always clean i spend 30 buck at the car wash after everytime i go wheeling . so mud and stuff like that isnt an issue . i can see how you guys are saying that bigger tires cause more strain but isnt that what the clutch is for

not to mention there was that guy that had the JK posted up here with his fron diff ripped apart from the 38's he was running and they gave him a new diff

i guess its because im french maybe i can uses that against them say its racis

I agree with Tom that attitude is everything when dealing with the dealership guys.  Im sure that the service departments see droves of angry people with broken vehicles every day.  If you can be the one person who comes in with a good attitude and a smile you will probably get a lot further than a demanding attitude.  I have gotten a bunch of free stuff from the dealer close to me, probably because I didnt rip their head off when it turned out my order wasn't complete.  Overnighting one coil isolator from Edmonton on Friday night plus free Mopar swag was pretty good of them, considering that all the stuff was worth more than that one isolator.

That being said I wont assume that you treated them badly but possibly caught them on a bad day, or a day that was full of jerks.  It seems most times I go there is one or two people losing their heads in the service area.  I try and go in the morning about 1/2 hour after they open so Im one of the first people there.  Rob at Courtesy is a great guy and will probably be the biggest help here.  If they have to do anything special because of mods that were not factory, it should be our responsibility for any added cost or time need to work around them.

Did they have to remove anything to get to the transmission in order to examine it?  I doubt that an assessment that results in a finding of "not covered under warranty" would be free, Im sure if they found it was covered they would waive the fee (-the deductible).

Service Advisors more often then not want to fix your vehicle. We are about 90% or more of the warranty decision. How the vehicle is written in regards to complaints/symptoms, who the vehicle goes to in the shop and approaching the SM or DSM in regards to grey area warranty matters. Anything can be warranty. So if you have hit this obstacle with a dealership not wanting to fix your truck under primary warranty then you have givin them some reason not to. Not saying it was you or your approach, but maybe you had a green advisor or got an advisor on a bad day. Also, when there is a matter that is 50/50 on if its warranty or not the very first thing that comes into the conversation is the vehicles service history at the particular dealership. The best thing you can do is have a regular dealership you go to, so they are familiar with your vehicle and you have some sort of working relationship with the advisors. Most of the dealerships here in Calgary have top warranty rating, meaning they make the initial call on the warranty, self authorized. So unless they come across a rig thats been blag flagged in the Chrysler Dealer connect its their call on all the warranty applications. Sorry for the wall of text but really its a simple process getting items fixed under warranty. State your symptoms, when they happen and how they can be duplicated, and let the process take care of itself.

Jeff,
i apologized much earlier in this thread when i was called out, about stating you were slamming them. You were only complaining.

If you get black flagged, its over for you. No warranty ever. Many horror stories on the 'net' regarding Canadians being black flagged.

Also, if they took the vehicle in as you stated and did what was necessary to diagnose and than after the fact stuck you with the bill that had NEVER been discussed as a possibility BEFORE they started, than you have every right to be fumed.

My first jeep, i paid $20,000. i also bought extended warranty and racked up $20,000 in warranty repair. True story.
Sometimes you just get lucky.

And you still have not answered the question...

Did you have this tranny problem prior to the lift?

the tranny problem was very minnor befor the lift . only once a week it would pop out of gear

but as time has passed and now the lift has been in there for jsut over 6 weeks its getting alot worse and today i started to loose my 3rd gear as well wont stay in if i down shift and the RPMS are over 2800

i have extended warrenty that i will be checking into tomorrow if i can dig up the papers .

i know how the dealerships work my brother is a tech for BLAN K.. and they never turn down stuff .. they have trucks with 6 inchs of lift and 35's come in and they do everythign .. they dont care if its lifted they still get paid to do the work . what BLANK CANADA doesnt know wont hurt them .
he thinks its retarded the VARSITY turned work down in such a slow time . work is work . if i pay or of the manufacture pays its still money coming in to that shop

but if all this BS turns out even worse .. where is a good place to get a tranny built or pick up one
