Sounds like one of your sway bar links are snapped.  And the clunk is coming from the sway bar smacking whats left of the link. Cheep part and sthey seem to go often on older jeeps.  Have a quick peek hopfuly thats all it is.

My old XJ did the same thing.  The clunk was caused by excessive play in the rear carrier in the diff.  It wasn't an issue mechanically, more of an annoyance.

Don't let a worn pin/carrier worry you, seen go decades with no problems, but this "hello kitty" thing and plasma cutting has me thinking, what do you charge?
