TJ lift kits
« on: March 12, 2010, 11:07:05 AM »
Hope you all can help me with a 4" lift kit for the 2003 TJ, so many on the market and most if all look the same. i don't have a lot of cash for this but still want a good lift for a ground ponder. this will be for show only.

If your strapped for cash, 1 or 2inch body lift and 3inch coil spacers, and extended brake lines, and maybe a t-case drop.  Is probably the cheapest route if you don' t plan to off-road much and don't care too much about ride quality.

But if your looking for a lift kit, 3" OME kit is hard too beat in terms of functionality and ride quality.
03 TJ - 6" body lift and 31 MTR's, other wise stock.

if its all show, the a daystar 1" body lift, 2 " coil spacers and some rims with 3.5-4.0" back space will work fine, even get the zenon plastic flat flares for the little extar room and to keep the tires covered and legal. do all that for under 2000$ including installation at a shop.

Joel & hps4evr pretty much nailed it... what they didn't tell was why. Here is the why.

If its all just for show... you don't need to spend money on stronger control arms, springs, sway bar disconnects, quality rod ends, shocks, etc.

So... a 2" spacer lift:
1) Doesn't require a SYE and CV shaft (installed... this can cost as much as a 1/2 decent lift kit alone)
2) Doesn't require a T-case drop (cheaper but cheesier alternative to a SYE & CV shaft)
3) Doesn't require new springs (less cost)
4) Utilizes your stock control arms (less cost)
5) Will be quicker to install (less cost)
6) In combination w/ a 1" body lift & flat flares give you body clearance for 33" tires

Understand though... that this will pretty much get you a crap lift for anything offroad.

If you think your going to wheel (semi- serious w/o breaking stuff in the bush) at some point... consider investing in:

1) 4" Rough Country X-Series lift w/ SYE & CV shaft (Pretty decent single flex kit)
2) 4" Currie Enterprises lift w/ SYE & CV shaft (Top quality double flex kit that will last 100,000Km plus)

With all that said... I am surprised you didn't get flamed harder for posting "for show only"... most, if not all, guys on here build their rigs to go wheelin and don't care much about show. Looks like its your lucky day and actually got some decent advice  ???

I had big plans for my jeep until the economy went for crap. I went from a $10,000 build budget to $2,000. This is my jeep below. Keep in mind that I started with a rubicon and I had made several changes over the past 5 years. The lift is 4" and cost $1450 for long arms. It isn't perfect but it is better than stock. I am running 35" KM2s.

Rubicon Josh...

Nice highline body kit. I take it... its from AEV?

http://www.aev-conversions.com/products/highline/

To go 35's... I went w/ 4" lift & flat fenders simply for durability out on the trails. The dent in that sweet AEV hood must have hurt  :(

fire and ice...

This pic is a 2" spacer lift, no body mods & 33's

This pic is a 4" lift, no body mods & 33's (white letters out & tire shine on lock  :-[)

This pic is the same 4" lift, flat fenders & 35's (no tire shine  ;D)

Just a cool pic (showin off my AEV stuff too  ;))

Dent?! Nope it'sjust the lighting in the shop. I hardly have a scratch. My fender flares are a little beat up from running 35" tires with just 2" coil spacers.

This is the jeep before the lift.
