Here's a few pics of my brackets for a high alternator mount if you decide to go that route.

How much do you charge for the brackets? And also would the 136 amp alternator from a dakota/durango fit the brackets?

What years are you guys working on? The alts for the pre '91 Renix Jeeps are different from the post HO models.

They are $160 for a set, will be trying various different alternators and making a few different versions of these this summer.  Not 100% sure what different models they will work for yet but I will know within the next few months.
I just can’t resist a good mud hole!  🤦

Ya $280 seemed high to me as well unless that was before the core charge was taken off.

Reclocking the case: The alt has two case halves, front and back. The front half has the mounting ears for mounting it on the engine. The back half has the brushes and vent in it. The way the alt comes stock when you mount it the vents are at the top(12 o'clock) and the brushes holders are at the bottom(6 o'clock). Mud enters the vents at the top and runs down into the brush holders and sits there causing them to hang up in the holders.

By removing the three small bolts holding the case halves together you can rotate the case halves against each other so that when the alt is installed back in the engine the vent is at the bottom(mud now will run out via gravity) and the brush holders are at the top and stay more dry and mud free.

Thanks cLay for sharing the solution we showed you in our shop. Too bad you didn't give credit to those that showed you a solution rather than taking credit for it yourself. It's because of guys like you that we don't post solutions on web sites any more.

I'm sorry you feel this this way and do acknowledge that it was Rich(Capt Crunch) who told me about this trick saying he had done it on his XJ.  I guess I was standing in your shop when he told me about. I viewed it as a tip from him to me and didn't realize it was a propreitery secret. While I did fail to give Rich credit in this thread I have given credit in past threads that I've passed this tip onto.

As well ANYTIME someone has asked me where to get an alt or starter rebuilt I've been sure to give them your shops name as I always felt you guys were open and willing to help. Now that you've informed me of your changed policy I'll be sure to send them elsewhere.

BTW had you sent this to me via a PM telling me how you felt I would have gladly added your shops name to the credit in this thread and saved you the embrassment.

I honsetly hope the rest of your week goes better than today.....

Here's the plug I gave you guys after you fixed up my winch.

Being that we came up with this solution together I felt safe posting the tech about it. Just so you know it didn't last I had to go back into and found the problem somewhere else. You'll notice too that I didn't blame you in anyway for that.
