10 000 for spring over was he kidding, spring over has to be the cheapest next to body lift you can do, weld on some spring perches, longer shocks, break lines and call it a day.

is there a reason why you want to go spring over?  4" lift springs aren't that costly anymore...........

gotcha

things to look out for;  the spring over lifts are notorious for axlewrap;  it happens on hills, in holes, etc.  what happens is the rear wheels 'hop'  and don't stay glued to the ground.....
the spring over also gives you about 5 - 6 inches of lift, and will kill driveline angles.   you will need a slip yoke on the rear;  or at minimum a tcase drop.  i run 4" springs and still need the drop........
in short, just the spring over is not a cheap lift; it will hit you in many other places!

the reason the 4" springs are so common is because it works really well :)  if you want something 'tall'  do a 4" spring under and do a 3" body lift.

maybe another question to address is what size tire do you want to run?  stock yj axles blow, and anything over 33s will be really sluggish and potential to break stuff is present. plus, a 6" lift on 33s will make ur tires look small.

anyways, just some ideas

they said it would cost 10,000 for a spring over axel instale

Did they maybe think you were asking for a coil over install?  That would be a bit more work.

You cant blame national for the quote. A properly fabricated springover with a proper traction bar is a dirty job, and does approach that 80 plus hours of labor range to be done right.

Not to mention the parts involved like Alcan springs front and rear to try and avoid shitty flat springs that will fatique to fast.

For what in the end is a poor performing, outdated suspension that no one does anymore because it doesnt work very well.

Really? That's all there is to a spring-over? Gee, I should go get a YJ just so that I can do cheaper suspension mods.  :D

Why don't you tell us how many leaf sprung Jeeps you've owned and done spring-over conversions on. Let us know how they worked out in terms of road manners and real suspension performance on the trail.

You're joking right.  Spring-overs sound simple enough, but as stated above there are A LOT of other things to consider at the same time, especially the axle wrap issues in the rear.

i've helped with 2 and if you own a yj your not after suspension performance, for the wrap issue the is lots of very simple cheap solutions to that.

Anyone setting up any suspension without performance in mind is an idiot.

An axle wrap system is a complex link and shackle set that requires considerable fabricating and geometry knowledge.

They aren't cheap to buy, or have built unless you do it all yourself. Even then its a couple hundred for tube, bushings, shackle, joint, and crossmember material.
Even then they can be a gamble due to the rigs weight spring parameters.

Comparing ignorant back yard hack tactics to a properly done professionally fabbed and installed spring over is where you are missing the point.

Since its so easy and cheap, you should offer to do it for him.
