it never ends....
« on: October 30, 2010, 12:00:32 AM »
Well I'm putting my lift in consisting of rubicon express 4.5" springs and shocks, front lower rough country control arms, rear lower procomp arms, procomp drop pitman arm, and a ome REAR trackbar bracket.

Well first issue was gathering all the parts, but not to shabby for $300 and a couple small costs (new bushings, grease, etc). So today is the day to lift. I call my buddy chris and he lent me some necessary tools to do the job. This will be the 4th lift I've put in a tj.

Onward, nothing goes right. Breaking bolts, no FRONT trackbar bracket, a couple missing tools, and worst of all seized cam bolts.

So here I am unable to work on my jeep until sunday, I will have to cut off the lower control arm cam bolts because they are so seized. I have to find new cam bolts and either buy an adjustable track bar or find a bracket and finish my lift by tuesday.

The cam bolts shouldn't be too hard to find. The trackbar or track bar bracket may be. An issue oh and I have to find a socket for my pitman arm and a pickle fork.

Not to complain but why does nothing ever go as smooth as it should?

If anyone can help me out with any of my issues ill gladly bring beer.

Thanks for letting me rant, this club is by far the best group of jeepers I've met.

i believe for the front track bar you can just redrill the hole over towards the drivers side by 3/4"......... much cheaper than a trackbar bracket!

I used a ("you owe me money so I'm gonna break your legs with this here wrench") big adjustable on the pitman arm nut. Just lay under there and give it a boot, spins right off. As for torquing it on to 185ft/lbs after, same deal. Just pull till you can't anymore (I call it the $#%!ing tight torque spec). I have a puller which you can also use the adjustable on to pop the pitman arm off too.

Any other tools you need?

I just about have her done. Apeman lent me some much needed tools. I picked up a re adjustable from stan at northridge. As far as everything else, I have to change out the control arms yet, but I bought a 3 foot breaker bar. Have to adjust and tighten track bar, I don't have a 15/16s socket here so ill be borrowing one from work. And lastly I have to figure out the rear sway bar. What does everyone else do here? My sway bars are hitting my ebrake cables.... Any ideas? Do they make rear extensions?

Will post a pic of progress in 5.

i know on the JK people usually swap the front links to the rear and then put new links in the front

as for me i run no sway bar up front i keep destroying the links  even HKS disconnects so no more sway bar

Thanks joey and jeff.... These are just the first mods. I'm secretly build some diffs at an undisclosed location. First of many mods.

Front sway bar isn't an issue, but the rear is being a pain in the arse.

Whats the prob with rear swaybar? You have the factory one on there right...So do you need the drop down/longer down links?

All done minus 2 control arms.... But HUGE problem.

I was removing 3 of the bolts for my t case drop, and they were tight as all hell. 3 foot breaker bar and my whole 270lbs pulling.

I did get them out BUT when I went to put my new bolts in, EVERY nutsert stripped!!!!

First, why oh why did this happen?

Second, will it happen to the other side?

Third, will the nutserts take the abuse of a drill and tap?

never happened to me but i can only imagine the frame rail has lots of mud and dirt in it so it was making the bolts rust a bit more then there should .

i cant confirm if drill and tap will be better
