What are your must haves in your wheeling tool kit
« on: December 15, 2010, 01:40:03 PM »
Ok so my wife is asking me about Xmas ideas.

I figure a half decent tool bag and some mandatory trail tools is a good way to go that was I am not transferring my tools back and forth from garage to jeep.

So now on to my question  (I know I know I have lots of questions)

What are your must haves in your tool kit for reasonable trailside repairs?

for small stuff, socket set, wire cutters/pliers, cable ties, good ratchet straps
first aid kit is nice too, at least bandages and stuff.

then there is always your recovery equipment, however I assume you've got the necessities since you've been out with the club already.

Well I won't be winched up for the Jan 1 run but that will happen sooner rather than later.............this beast is only 8 days old in my possession.  I will have a recovery strap and the stock recovery points on the Rubi are more than adequate for this run (based on the list)  I have to find my recovery strap, but even if I don't I will have one for Jan 1.

The winch thing is a whole other kettle of fish, I was happy with my Superwinch on my '07 but then again I never really had it in any really taxing situations either.

a tree saver is a good to have too if you'll be winching eventually. That may make a quick gift from someone :)

Tree saver, snatch block, and a couple of shackles are all things you will want once you have a winch. Once you get a compressor, a tire plug kit and a nice big 2 inch rachet strap (for re-seating beads). An axe and maybe a sweep saw are good things to have in the Jeep as well.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Todd, I've seen another post of yours about a sweep saw. I'm curious? I've got 3 or 4 Swede Saws but I've never heard of a sweep saw.
Even did a google image search this morning and didn't come up with anything.

Same thing. I think they're actually supposed to be called a "bow saw"...but what do I know?

Two even better words: Rescue Tape ( http://www.rescuetape.com/videos/jeep-jamboree-3 ).

Been carrying this stuff for a few years now and have since repaired rad hoses, plugged a leaky radiator, and brake lines.
