hey Dom, after researching inof for my d60's, i found that the rear d60 needs the spindles machined out to accept the 35 spline axles. now that may only be on my ford '78 full float d60 or it may be for all of them. something to look into if you really want the 35 spline shafts. yukon makes chromo in both version.

well, let me know how it goes for you. id be interested in the same for mine. no offence but you can play guinea pig ;D

ive read a few threads on pirate and some guys are cutting the spindles off to put them on a lathe and re-welding them back onto the housing, seems like a lot of work though. post up results.

I've been running my Dodge rear D60 for almost 15 years now on the original shafts. The axle has been in 3 different wheeling rigs now. The first being a 1/2ton Dodge with a mildly built 360 and 35" tires. I've never broken anything on it.

Unless youare putting it in something with 40"+ tires and big HP or just want the bragging rights of having a 35spline D60 why bother? Spend the money/effort somewhere else.

he is [will be] 37or38" beadlocked and spooled.  30 spline is nice, but 35 is a good feeling to have.  the traction he will be putting down can [and will] put a lot more stress on the shafts than a typical rig with 35"  especially when we go to moab.  it's really just extra work, not extra $ so why not?

Both Valid points cLAY and FiEND, it all comes down to the size of tires and the HP/TQ you will be running. I believe Dom you will be running a spool as well right? I may self will only be running 36" iroks for now so the 30 spline should be good enough, but i'll be the guinea pig for this little mod, i'll let you know how hard it was to do.

Sorry still not seeing it, mine's been spooled(welded) since day one, I'm running 36" tires and have been to Moab with it twice, second time was in my heavy ZJ with the V8.

If thats what he wants then go for it but its by no means needed....

I would strongly suggest putting the effort into shaving it instead.

you didn't mention beadlocks.  dropping tires down to basically nothing and jamming them between rocks ... well, i don't know how or what you wheel but I know there's pretty much nothing i can do to break my rear end unless i forget to check the fluid.

sure, 30 spline may work, but if they dont he will be kicking himself for not spending the extra few hours.  imagine that when he is 2000km from home.

not to mention he has 29 splines now.  he would never live it down...

"Dom did what?  he spend umpteen hundred dollars for one more spline"  haha :D

shaving it also looks worthwhile.  good benefit for a little bit of time and effort.

Ya you got me there... no beadlocks... :o I bet that would have got me up Potato Salad hill! Ya thats it, it was the rims fault..... ::)

Thats the nice thing about a full floating axle, break an axle, just keep on driving. I left mine stock so that if I ever break one I just spend $30 getting another. After 10 years of tripping over my spare shafts I finally tossed them.

is that jessi comb riding the d60? she annoys me, she ruined some myth busters episodes for me.
