Lost 4 high
« on: May 10, 2011, 10:55:07 PM »
I lost 4 high in my 99 xj last fall. 2 and 4 low still work fine but I thought I should have a look at it. What t case options do I have if I need to replace this one.

You can swap a 242,231,241. I do believe.

231 and 241 are for part time 4x4 operation only, slippery, loose road surfaces.

242 will have a 4x4 full time option so you can run it on dry pavement without undue stress to the drivetrain.
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Cant tell you for sure but everything Ive read and heard, the 231 is a stronger transfer case.

Thanks for the info. It has 231 so if needed I'll rebuild that one.
