Say I had this piece but it blew out of my truck on the way back from pnp and I installed a tranny without it. They call it a spacer but I believe its more or less just a fancy washer...



?

Depends on what side of the flywheel it goes on.  Between the crank and flywheel it's used for correct aligment of the starter, between the flywheel and disk just a fancy washer. IMO

Actually its like a giant washer and yeah its important.  It distributes the torque of those bolts over the diameter of the flywheel surface....helps prevent warping...but I'm sure justin will just not use it anyhow

Looks like the head Gasket out of a sanden AC compressor. If it was in your tranny, that may explain why the AC dont work ;)
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

Here is a way to look at it. car manufactures are the cheapest bunch of crooks out there. If it was not 110% needed it would not be there.

Is it a shim or a washer? If its a thin shim then it is probally for between the crank and the flexplate for proper starter / torque converter engagment. If it's  a thick washer then its to renforce the thin flex plate.

Now to find out which side of the flex plate it goes on.

It goes on the very outside..just under the flywheel bolts dummy...its a washer not a shim..... ::)

I remember something like that hitting my windshield breaking it, what day did you come back from pnp.  
It distributes the load/ contact surface of the flywheel bolts, inshort giving a simillar contact surface on outside of flywheel as to the inside flange of the crank. This would reduce the chances of cracks around bolt holes. I've seen aftermarket flywheels installed that did not have this on. I also recommend buying new flywheels  (automatics) when doing transmission work / swaps as SFI comp flywheels only run 80 bucks and are much better quality.

Just to pick the brain of a fab shop owner...did you locktite the bolts? What color?

I was a second year mechanic back in the day, and currently have my "automotive service certificate". I have swapped engines, diffs, trannys, body parts, rad's, rims, tires, exhaust work, engine rebuilds, suspension systems, ect. This is the first standard to auto swap I have done. For a backyard mechanic to know every intricate part of a transmission system is probably not going to happen. I didn't just post up here blind. I've read 100's of forum pages and none of them had a clear answer. Is it a simple part, yes. I stated I had an idea as to what it is which is just a fancy washer. So what's going to happen if in don't install it? My flywheel will crack or break. And my flywheel was a used $20 part because I wasn't 100% sure it would work with the crank sensor.

As for a nine customer, if you hadn't noticed i shut it down. Not because of lack of knowledge but time. And I wasn't doing mechanical work for anyone there smart guy, nor anything structural, because I don't have the right equipment for projects that large. If the canadian welding board tests my welding and and accepts the fact I can weld a 20,000# skid together then 3 lbs brakets without structural integrity shouldn't be much of a liability.

And finally, yes everything was locktited. Blue and red depending on which bolts.

yeah, one more, why shut down nine ind? The stuff i saw you make was pretty good, regardless of size, or quantity. You still need time to get your own stuff done i guess. Let me know when you start thinking of bumpers and armor, i know you could probably put out a good product.I wasnt criticizing your ability or qualifications at all Justin. Do what you want, just dont forget the little details. They usually end to be the make or break in any project, whether a tranny swap or a 5000hp skid.
