Hello there,

My name is Ben and I have a problem: I don't get out Jeeping enough! So; I've been reading these forums for a couple weeks and I decided to register in the hope that I can be a part of the Calgary Jeep community! As there doesn't seem to be an introductions forum here I though I'd post in chit chat to say hello. I've got a 4.0L 98 ZJ which I'm going to be lifting in the next month or so and I come from a family of Jeeps my first being an 87 xj. I haven't lived in Calgary for too long so I'm looking for some like minded people to go wheeling with. From what I've seen so far I like the attitude of maintaining the trails and practising  responsible 4x4ing.  I'd love to join in on some open rides to get to know people! I was thinking of going down to Mclean this weekend but it would be my first time going to that spot so any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not great at introductions so I hope that made sense

I dunno, a buddy of mine back in BC has a pretty sick rockcrawler ZJ running on 37s  that we threw around a lot, although it's all running all 1 ton gear so it's overkill for sure. I'd just like to lift it enough to get some 33's on it. Bad idea still?

even better advice dont go to mclean alone in a none lifted ZJ

watch the forums for open runs join in . make sure you have good tires and tow points front and rear . good strong engine full tank of fuel and some recouvery gear  and most people would be happy to have you wheel with them

I was thinking that, I don't know the trails out here all that well but I know the limits of my rig, are there any slightly more stock(ish) friendly places that aren't too far away?

I have to agree with Rubio. Regardless of how well you know your rig or how good of a driver you are, going alone is not a good idea. You never know what could happen. Think Murphy's Law.

Maybe you could post an open ride to Mclean this weekend and see if others want to go. If there is any advantage to belonging to a forum like this it is having people there to help you out when you need it. I am a newbie here and everyone I have met and wheeled with on this forum has somehting to offer. Keep an open mind and you will learn and be better for it.

Welcome to the forum and look forward to meeting you out on the trails. I may even be available for a run this weekend at Mclean if you chose to post it.

Hey Ben, welcome to Calgary! You can come wheeling with me and Mike (Mikey) any time dude :)

We might do a Mclean run this weekend to test out some new parts we built.

Have you cut/ grinded off the factory control arm mounts on the unibody yet? Don't they limit up- travel for your longarms? ::)

There's nothing wrong with lifting a ZJ if you've done your homework . V8 and leather interior... drool.

Of which I have neither :P I love my i6 though, such a nice engine and beautifully easy to work on, at some point I'd like to stroke it to 4.6 but that's a while away.

Cut them off. Just fixing the last little issues, like rear springs falling out.
