You wouldnt need the pump. The TJ pump is very torqy as is, and nothing would be gained by running a durango one.
The only way you would want a different OEM pump is if your TJ is a 4 banger, and even then, you can esily mod the 4 banger pump to match the output of the 6 cyliner. On the 6 bangers there is usually 1 x 15 thou washer on pressure releif piston, where as on the 4 banger there are two. The flow orifaces are usually the same. Pull one of the washers out of the 4 bangers pistion and you will run the same psi as a 6 banger pump.
Pull out both and you will run about 100-150psi over stock. Drill out the oriface 1/64" and you will flow more from the stock pump. That is commonly referred to as hot rodding a stock pump. Use a good cooler, and good fluid if you hot rod. They neccesarily last to long when they are hot rodded.
Definately run the cooler either way. Its just better for the system.
The stroke on a Durango box is slightly limited compared to TJ box. Three options.
1. Put it in and leave it. If you rub already, not a big deal.
2. Have a rebuilder tear it down, the travel can be extended to that of a TJ box.
3. Use a WJ stock pitman, which is about 1-1.5" longer then a stock TJ one, with pretty much the same drop, and can be had from the dealer for under 50 bucks. They usually have them in the wharehouse right in red deer.
