Saggy XJ Doors.
« on: September 06, 2012, 07:07:30 AM »
I have a 1998 XJ 2DR. The door hinges are worn. Far as i can see its a body shop repair as far as the bond/welding go.  Is there another repair?

Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mickey.
What would i spend my money on if it wern't for JEEP's

Usually you can fix that with new door pins... I have the same issue on my XJ but yet to tackle it.
'91 XJ - 3" procrap - cutout for 33" MT's  - More and more dents every run...Sold.
'98 XJ - Lifted, locked and lovin' it

If its the actual weld to the body letting go you can weld it, or bolt it. I did the bolt through method and have had zero issues.

I fixed mine with grand cherokee hinge brass bushing. Auto Value has them... it's about $20-$30...

It i sa royal pain the arse to get the old bushings out.

option: Duke of Hazard it out.. weld your doors and jump in the window  ;)

To clarify, its the hinge pivot itself thats worn. I was hoping there would be a replcement pivot or bushing available.

If I understand well....

It is the bushing then... it doesn't look like there are any there but ...They are there

The pins slide in the "pivot hinge"  there is a bushing there.

the bottom of the pin is worn in the hinge. allows about 1.5' of play  up and down in the door.

Haha...hmmm that's one idea! Or just take the doors off like the cool kids are doing these days... :P

Good to know about the ZJ bushings, are the XJ ones not brass?

That's all they had at the store on Bannister at the time..... they fit on the XJ. I think it's the same application (might want to double check)
