Avenza Maps
« on: November 28, 2017, 11:05:46 AM »
After some discussion this weekend on the trail here's the how to for Avenza Maps:

Download: Android or iPhone or even Windows 10 (Tablet?)

Once you have downloaded the app you need to have maps in it before you head out (You will download the maps over LTE or Wifi data)

Note:
To install the Ghost and McLean georeference maps it works better to have the link already copied:
Ghost Link
McLean Link

Click the plus in the lower right and select "Download or import".

Select "Tap to enter a url..." and paste in the links from above (one at a time)

Hit ok and you've now imported the map.  Once downloaded and processed you can access this map anytime regardless of cellular reception.  You must have Location Service turned on to get the GPS functionality.

You can record your own tracks and use place markers for key points, trailheads, campsites, etc

You can use the "store" to search for old resource maps that are available for free Some are Free and some aren't

The Record tracks option and Placemarker features work great with these maps EG: Specifically Limestone mountain: https://i.imgur.com/TIhmMc6.png

Note stay to designated trails if the trail is designated but not on your map that's what I mean by record your trails...

Ya for sure. I’d already figured this out on my own but great to actually have the process documented here... the old memory is still good but getting shorter!  ;)

The links to specific maps will change 1-2 times a year.

Trails 4 Tomorrow has a resource page that has a link to the main page and step by step instructions to get to the maps.

Why buy a Jeep when you can walk for free🤪🤪🤪🤪
