Thanks to Bogfrog we have the start of a plan for this run.

We think it would be a great idea to start this run by going to the gravel pit to play for a while.

The newbies who have not been off road before or have very limited experience could learn some driving techniques and get some experience with backing down hills, learning how much their jeep will flex, driving off camber etc.

A more experienced wheeler could take them for a ride in thier own jeep so that the newbie can get a feel at what a jeep can do. Or a more experienced jeeper could jump in the newbies jeep and give them some hints on the best way to drive up and down hills, of camber stuff etc.

A mini jeeping 101 course. Then when we are bored with that, we could split into groups and head off to the trails.

Does that sound like a reasonable plan?
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

Do we need to be CJA members to go on this ride?

What are some basic requirements for stockers, do we need a winch, or cb, tow points etc. I have a 1994 ZJ 5.2L V8 bone stock. I just want to do easy stuff, because I dont want to break anything.

Where are you guys meeting to get organized?

I used to abuse my stock yj pretty good. But I primarly like mud holes.

i would suggest towpoints and a CB as well as a strap (with looped end no metal hooks)

No, you don't have to be a member. You don't even have to have a jeep,

Yes, you definately have to have tow points. front and rear.

No, a winch is not required.

If you just want to hang around in the pit with us a CB is not req'd
For a trail run a CB is req'd
Communications are very important.
If there are group of people that want to do a run using FRS radios that would be fine with me. Everybody in a group must be able to communicate with each other. I can not stress this enough, I have seen too many incidents this year that have been resolved easily because of radios, And I have seen some that went badly and unsafely because of inadequate communications.

I have a few frs radios, I will lend out if a group wants to borrow them, Bring some AA batteries.
I will relax the radio rule for this run only for any newbies.

PS: I don't really like the term "newbie" but I can't think of another word.

How's "fresh tug meat" sound?

I went out on my last run with these guys in my 93 ZJ.  V8, 5.2, but Limited Edition with the Up Country package including the hitch, tow hooks, skid plates, and a factory 1" lift.

Out of all of it, I definately COULD have ended up using the tow hooks (but luckily I didn't, and I stress that was LUCK), but the skids definately came in handy, as one creek crossing gave a good little THUMP on the transfer case skid.

Something to think about. Should be easy enough to find at a pick n` pull.

Good responsible answer Doug.  8)  I am sure Ian, as the trail leader, has covered all the issues with you on this and worked it out.

You can count me in...I like the idea of teaching us "fresh tug meat" some off roading techniques at the gravel pit before hitting the trail.
