XJ rear end

Just looking into for a friend.  He was told by a mechanic that his rear pinion gears were gone and needed to be rebuilt for about 7 bills.  I was thiking he could just find a rear end on here and swap the rear end out in a garage.  Any ideas if that is the way to go and if anyone has one for sale.  91 XJ.  How much it would cost if someone here would be willing to do the work????

look at the rear diff and mounted to the bolts that hold the diff cover on will be a tag.I need the numbers off it.Shoud be able to find one of these numbers on it 3.08,3.54,3.73,4.10.If the rear tag is missing check the front diff cover for a tag.then look at the rear diff cover does it look more round or more like a stop sign with sharper corners need to know which it looks like.If thats your jeep in the pic look at your rear diff you will have the dana diff(round looking)

Dom, he's not calling you fat. He's saying your bottom is flat.

How he even notices this stuff is a mystery.

If it is a 90, than it is most likely a Dana 35 axle

Actaully what it SHOULD have been was a D44 but Chrysler cheaped out and put in a D35 instead.  :D
