AXLE TRUSS

Everyone was asking about trusses in another post.  While surfing I cam across these trusses that apear bullet proof, and they make one for the D35.  Check it out they are cheap too.

I'd say a bit overkill for most applications although nice looking.

A simple rock krawler, or clayton style truss is more then enough to handle anything a d35 will take.

Like this one.


If you have a chop saw and welder, you can make one out of square tube for about 40$.


Just another option.

I am using the rock krawler truss plate from their 4.0 x factor kit and then going to weld a box steel bridge that I can bolt to it.  It is probably over kill but I am going to try running 35's on a D35 and I am paronoid.

A really common misconception is that d35's fail from tubing flex. They dont. They actually fail due to the housing itself flexing.

The truss you have added is more then enough to stop that housing from flexing.

If you do not have a 30 spline carrier, then your weak link will now be the axle shafts and or spider gears if they are stock.

If you have a 30 spline carrier your weak link will be the ring and pinion.

What Im saying, is that the RK truss you have has stiffened your axle assembly enough that one of the above components will fail due to shock load or stress long before you break an axle off due to housing flex.

I strongly recommend a 30 spline carrier if you want to run 35's on your d35.

We run a RK trussed d35 with a 30 spline arb and chromo's in my wifes jeep. She competed in the rock crawl last year on 33 x 1350's and was one of the few jeeps that did not break an axle in her category.

Just my 2 cents. You can spend time on further trussing if you want, but in my experience, what you have is good.

When you say a 30 spline carrier.  Do you mean a superior super d35 setup?

The plate I bought from rock krawler is not like the one in your picture.  It looks like the one at the bottom of this one:

Yes the 30 spline carrier is for a super 35 kit.  You D35 will not hold up to 35s with the standard carrier and axles.

Exactly, 30 spline carrier is the super 35.

That is the bolt on option RK has. I didnt realize that was what you are using.

Upgrading to the welded wouldnt be a bad idea, both strength, and ease of maintenance wise.
