i'm sure the sub is powered by it's own amp.  all you need to worry about is getting a head unit with sub outputs.

the sub is powered by a little amp right behind the sub. Or its built into the housing.

From what I remember. The Rubicon Owners Forum will have info.

i do know that the sub and soundbar are on the same fuse. honking 40 amp fuse. Fade front and the sub disappears, Fade rear and its there.

my guess is there is small amp bridged mono ponied off the 2nd stereo amp's cicuit for the soundbar. Unless the head unit powers everyhting, but I doubt it.

Sub is powered by it's own amp.  Just have to make sure you hookup the remote or accessoriy line to the sub line to ensure it get's powered on with the new unit.

This is how i hook up all my systems:

Deck: front and rear speakers from harness to old speaker wires.
Deck: RCA jacks used for Subs.
Deck: remote wire in harness for Subs and/or power antenna.
Deck: ground and power to source from old stereo wiring.

AMP: RCA in from Deck
AMP: remote to deck
AMP: separate power to in line fused wiring to BATTERY
AMP: Ground to jeep

Sub: speaker wire to amp.
SUB: (possibles? remote to AMP. power to AMP, ground to amp.)

Now a sweet deal at Best Buy in Northlands Mall that i have in my Pajero and Motorhome is a Kenwood 10 inch sub in box with a BUILT in 200W AMP. It is last years model and they are clearing them out for $149.95 !
It sounds WONDERFUL and all that you need to do is run RCA jacks to Deck with remote wire also. i ground it with quick disconnects. And the pre suplied power wires with fuses to Battery. It comes complete with all wiring. Just go to CT or Radio shack and grab an RCA dual cable about 12-15 feet long.
The box can lie flat on its back in the jeep (or stand up).

i dont want to add any sub boxes or stuff like that.

just want to replace existing stuff as i dont want to take up any extra space.

possibly change the stock sub out later..  is that a easy task?

should be, it's a 6" sub i believe.  if you want bigger or more power you might be limited by space is all.

im sure just putting a aftermarket 6" sub is much better then the stock one.

the stock one doesnt sound bad at all...

im not after a boom machine.

When the top is off you can't hear the stock stuff that great so im willing to change out the stock stuff..

Only thing im doing different from stock speaker dimensions. is putting 5 1/4 speakers in the front which should be way better then the 6x9s

Did the front speakers tonight. Much better with the stock stereo.

Forgot i had a full service manual.

Looked up the Sub thing..  Its on the same wires as the rear speakers..

So all i have to do is hookup the new head unit with the front and rear speakers and the sub will be done.

Head unit next..

sounds so good ill have to change my pod speakers now

What did you put in the front?

I am going to have to replace my speakers soon... 3 years of drowning out wind/tire noise etc has taken its toll on the stockers.
