2k TJ questions regarding tire sizes

Hey guys fairly new to the jeep although the Comanche i had a few years ago was indestructible...  Anyways, I Just picked up a 2k Jeep TJ with the 4 cyl in it and im wondering what sort of limitations i should be looking at as far as rubber, and a few other things I should be looking at swapping asap.

Im looking at going with a 3.5" Rubicon express super flex lift and the appropriate rubber, however, I don't want to be the guy driving up a hill on the high way doing high rpm in 3rd or something. With that said where lies the limitations of a reasonable tire size?

Im not looking into going into some heavy mods, just enough so i can get back out into the bush to go camping and have a bit of fun.

Tyler, a 32 x 11" bfg AT is about the max you can go. Even then, you WILL be the guy struggling in 4th going up a hill and sometimes hitting 3 at the top.

The reason for the brand is the weight, the bfg at is among the lightest tire on the market, and one of the only brands that come in a 32" size.

You could run a 31" tire, but it would look funny on a RE 3.5 lift.

Only way to handle a larger tire on the road with a 2.5 is to regear the axles. Stock is 4.10, lowest you can go is 4.88, which can handle a 33" tire if you keep the rig weight down.

When I had my 4 angry squirrels and 31s and I was mostly 4th and 5th on the highway, but some hills, like in the mountains, I needed a little 3rd every now and then.  However, when I went to 33x12.5s, I was in 3rd a lot and not so much in 5th.

It is a tough call but if you want to run bigger tires you will need to regear like Bnine said

Well im not extremely set on the 3.5" lift, but anything is an upgrade over factory. Thanks for the info guys, i'll definetly start taking a look into re gearing and those tires.
