36-37" Tires, what gearing is right?
« on: January 13, 2008, 11:26:10 PM »
Just curious, Im running 36"s (on my 99 tj) now and my 5th gear is absolutly useless. I have 4.10's in it right now.

I cant decide what size tires i want to run, but if anyone runs 36's or 37's on their TJ, what gears do you have? and how well does your 5th gear hold up on the highway?

Here is a gear table, although I dont know much about the ratio's and how 5th gear will be affected..

just posted this as well to Immortals question.

**even with 31's my fifth gear is useless. designed more for Saskatchewan drivers im thinkin.

5.38s, auto, 36" IROKS, gets into OD fine but I would go lower if I could. Then again my '89 4.0 probably doesn't have as much umph as you newer TJ guys.

I'm running 4:56's w/ 31's (auto)...so in relation, I woud say minimum 4:88's with a 5 Speed or 5:13's with an auto.

Go with the lowest gear you can find (5.13) and be done with it...don't be like me who did it twice (4.88->5.13) cause it was so much fun swapping out gears.  :'(

still on the hunt for rubi 44's. I have 2 sets lined up. Just gotta choose which ones. But I think the 1 has 4.88's and the other has 5.13's.
