Q: Oil pressure sending unit

I'm replacing mine tomorrow. I'd like to know if this can be done without draining the engine oil? Thanks.

Ive wondered that too. Mine seems to work some times but not other. Usually doesn't work after an oil change. If you don't find out before you remove it let me know if you get covered in oil :(

How high up on the block is the sending unit?  The worst that can happen is it will drip on to the floor, you won't get covered in oil.  The oil is not under any pressure, so gravity is the only thing to worry about, but I think there won't be much oil come out at all.

Sending unit is right above the oil filter. Pulled off the old one and not so much as a drip came out. Screwed in the new unit (paid $40) and I have a working oil gauge again. No more pegged gauge even with the motor off!

Big S Auto in Strathmore, but any auto parts store should be able to help you out.

Next on my list is the temp gauge.

This seems like the best one to raise from the dead....
On Saturday night my Jeep started to sputter and the oil pressure was dropping. Hopped in this morning and it did the same thing and now the check engine light came on. No leaks and all fluids are topped up and as the should be. Could it be something as simple as the OPSU?
I was Jeepless since 2006. So I had to make a tough decision; the wife, or get a Jeep. So glad to be a Jeep owner again! I still miss my FSJ the most

Im going to ask the obvious but which code was tripped?  That will probably help you in narrowing it down

I cant get the diagnostic codes to trip(on-off-on-off-on). Not sure if it has something to do with the after market ignition imobilizer the previous owner installed

Doesn't sound like an OPSU problem.  If your engine is sputtering at idle and all most stalling your oil pressure could be going low.  When my OPSU bit the dust it did not affect the way the engine ran.  Best way to tell is to put a mechanical guage on there.

Well call first....I'm sure the price has went up in five years ;D
No sputtering while the Jeep is idling, just when accelerating(and not always). Runs fine and sounds normal

mine sputters when the map sensor acts up.  if the jeep drops to 2-300 rpm when sputtering like mine then the oil pressure will drop as well.  if the oil drops enough my check guages lights up with a beep but this only happened when running a fram oil filter.

What is the condition of the distributor cap?  I have a sputtering problem when my distributor cap was fouled.
