The kidlets have expressed in interest in going out to see the bridge we participated in building. Anyone else wanna go out that way...maybe go see Margaret Lake too? We've never been out to Margaret.
-
Hmmmmm..... I'll see if I can find an altenator, then let you know.
I would love to see that area in the summer time.

Sounds good. I think Aaron got my fresh spare alternator(ATI built-Rich) & if memory serves correctly isn't most of his spare stuff stored at your place? :D
I'll get my CB antenna working this week & prolly get the fuel tank skid on as well ;).
-
i need a trans and a tie rod . anyone got that .. then ill come
-
I am in for a trip to Margaret Lake as I have not been there before either.
Also I haven't spent a lot of time out in Waiparous so it would be nice to explore there a bit.
Seen lots of MacLean already.
Keep us posted on the meeting place/time
-
I can't wait, Looking very forward to the ride:)
Should be awesome weather :)
-
Wow...looks like we might have a nice little group on the go here ;). I have'nt been out there since last year(Meadow Creek) so wondering if anyone else has been out there more recently that will be willing to lead us.
Don't know about the rest of you but I'm thinking maybe meet at the Smitty's in Cochrane at about 9 & head out from there. Not looking for a long, hard day so thinking about trying to get back to Cochrane for supper around 6, maybe 7.
Any other ideas?
-
I haven't been there before, but 9am sounds good are we all meeting for breakfast?
-
He's probably talking about the first bridge as you're headed ewst on Meadow Creek. That's the one that was last year's trail project IIRC.
-
I've run Waiparous a few times so far this year... runs to the falls for the most part... trail was in good shape a few weekends ago. Lots of mud if you're looking for it... haha
Guess it mostly depends where you go in... if you take the first left past the staging area theres some good mud... if you take the last left down Waiparous Valley Road... just be aware that there is a log'd section of road that has to be passed and last time i was out there... it was DEEP.
I might be able to convince the lady to go for a ride... or at least let me... i have no CB though, so if thats required... im out.
I'll keep tabs on this post and see where it goes.
-
Yippeekiyaa,We're in. ;D
-
Well, its a road through... you're talking about the same thing... the guy i was with said it was a "new road" dont ask me how new... cause im new enough to the area that everything is still fairly new.
However... the long and the short of it... people were turning around... it was pretty badly rutted out and the mud was DEEP. I've got an XJ, 4" lift... 31" mud tires... i drag'd myself through it... but i have a winch as a backup as well.
Just a heads up is all... stockers might not enjoy pounding through that path... might actually be easier to go in the other way "long way around" to avoid it.
-
I think that new road you are talking about goes being camp Camisle you don't have to take it thought. We went down it on frasers run a few weeks ago and it was pretty bad then. There are a few easier ways to get around it if you stay close to the river bed.
-
Thought they blocked the path by the river... by blocked... i mean the rock that was close enough to the bank that was giving way that most wouldnt drive their jeeps on it anymore... haha Possibly another way around... i only knew the 2... who knows! Learn something new every time im out there.
-
hmm...maybe it did. I seem to remember it being passable last time I was out there...but its been a few weeks. I guess we will all find out when we get there, if we go in that way.
-

Yeah I think that's the one...point 91 or so on the map. Like I suggested before, not looking forward to being out till 9pm, try to get back to Cochrane 6-7ish. Making it any longer then that with kidlets(& a dog) is just silly ;).
If folks wanna have breaky at Smitty's that's cool, not sure if we will be there early enough for breaky. Depends how 'ready' we are Friday night.
Hey Tink if you could lead that'd be great. Should be able to count on you to be 'civilized' since you'll have a 'mall crawler' along for the ride :D.
-
So whats the ruling... CB required or not so much?
-
Well... in that case... i might just come along for the ride.
I'll confirm for sure closer to the end of the week.
-
So whats the ruling... CB required or not so much?
depends if you wanna listen to me and trevor chatter about nothing and everything...... thats what she said ;) LOL
oh, Me and Trev(Immortal) might be down. been a while since i've been up to waiprous.
-
I'm bailing on the Mclean run and joining this one... was up to the falls in Waiparious about three weeks or so ago with Fraser, slim and a few others... looking forward to seeing Margret lake.. I've heard about it but never been...
-

I think your talking about the road that the cja help clear to re rout around camp Camisle and away from the river. Too bad its in bad shape the gov should be looking after it. It was alot of work to clear that road, it took most of a winter and alot of volenter sweat
-
Bad shape would be putting it lightly.
-
I have a friend and my self looking to get out there this weekend aswell. Ill confirm closer to the end of the week. if we go it'll be a stock TJ and my lightly modified rig. We have the recovery gear just no radio's.
-
got room for 1 more, and when will we be meeting at smitty's?
-
so how many rigs y'all lookin at for this?
-
Let me know if you have room for one fat little jeep. I just have to confirm with my calender (wife), but I should be able to make it if you have room. I got my little issues worked out, and just finished cleaning the jeep from last time. I am ready to rock and roll. If somebody doesn't have a CB, I have a set of walkie talkies that I usually bring. I just usually put one in a jeep without, and one with a CB so at least the jeep can keep in touch with everyone else. Just a thought.

half dozens good......... ten ain't terrible.................. couple dozen and i'll just stick on the Deck and drink Bud Light Lime hahaha
-
Couple dozen and you'll need radar to play tailgunner!
-
APRS and a portable APRS repeater :)
no clue what those are.......
so BLL it is! haha
i just remember to a run in the winter we were ahead a good couple km from the end of the pack and i couldnt' even get radio reception with them........ as Nathan says its a 'slinky' and you get spaced out........ i'd rather just a smaller group (under 10) and good times.
regardless its lookin like i'm in
-
Looks like im in with one unit, will be my first run, so if it looks like it's getting to large a group we can just bail and go explore somewhere else.
-
im in for 1
-
I'm still in too :)
-
Us 3,Lets get muddy! ;D

Sweet,Hope you and you super beast can make it Randy,Your Jeep is a blast to watch in action :o.Just do what I do,bring your calender with you ;D
-
Got the okaly dokie from the wife. I will meet you at the usual around 8:45. I will have the usual winch straps and bail out gear should we need to get someone to the road. If there is something that people don't have, let me know, I usually pack a bunch of stuff but I can bring some odd things if needed (axes, chain saws, picks...).
See you then,
Randy
-
im still in!
-
wish I could make this one but I've been sent to Chicago to get a Cat 994 loader, have fun out there
-
Still meeting in Cochrane?
-
Just FYI: It's beginning to look like we may have to split into a couple of smaller groups so that the length of day is kept reasonable. I'm going to look at maps and we may have to organize our trip post-Cochrane. We are trying to keep this so that families with kids can get back at a reasonable time, so we are trying to keep this from becoming a mudfest.
Hey Tink thanks for sharing that thought. Us folks that are adventuring with kidlets in tow need to make sure the day is not a long one. Being back in Cochrane at 6 is a goal for us too. If some of the other folks wanna stay out longer...go for it but be safe. I'm thinking that it will be best to get out to the gravel pit, do our pre-trail checks, have a briefing & procede from there.
Looks like we have 11 units for the trip:
NUXJR - me
tinkerer - lead
michie
johnnyc
mhernden
aspirated
joker
jenn1981
black cheep
jeepers26
tubby89
We would ask that everyone have the minimum equipment - front & rear recovery points(winch optional), recovery strap, full size spare, cb(borrowed or otherwise), good dose of common sense, happy faces & open minds.
If there was at least one of us equipped with a shovel, hi-lift, come-along, buck saw etc, that'd be good. I have pick, axe, hatchet, folding saw, folding shovel & other basic survival gear.
No need to go hog wild...this was originally intended to be an easy, stocker, family oriented day, but Scouts motto is 'Be prepared'!!!
Plan is to meet at Smitty's at 9:00am & head out to the pit shortly there after.
Anyone else have thoughts?

Thanks for the offer to share there Johnny. I have frs radios too but I also have an older Radio Shack cb for loan(or sale if some wants to buy it) if someone has an antenna they wanna hook it up to. Walmart &/or Canadian Tire have magnetic mount antennas for about $40 or go see Dean at Comtek(Roadking at Peigan Trail).
-
I am still sadly CBless.

That would be perfect if this wraps up around dinner,we're bringing our daughter on this run.Don't think a 5yr old could do a full day ;)
-
I have a CB :)
-
Okay Guys So Lets Meet at Smitty's for 9AM have breakfast(I will have two kids that will be hungry) And well if I don't feed them I might be wanting Duct Tape..... Hmmm Maybe I should duct tape one just to be safe (lol)

I am still sadly CBless.

I am sure trying to talk nice....its just really really hard

I was wondering (Rob & Pat) if I could tag along on this run. Haven't run my station wagon since the 101 due to quality breakage. I want to test out my rig for any more steering issues. I can take up whatever position in the pack if you want. Thanks!

If you can make to out to Cochrane while staying on the road, prolly safe to say steering is okay :D. Yeah sure come along. Looking forward to an easy, doe tee doe kinda day on the trail ;). Are you pretty confident you will not need to be towed home?
Hey Jenn, I have a cb you could use. Will need to add to the power lead(some cord & end for cig socket) & address antenna needs. Can call me 870-5718
Yoah Michie! You talking about starting breaky at 9 or being ready to head out at 9? I have fresh roll of duct tape :o.
-
I Pick up Mike from Airdrie hes a pretty quick eater how long does it take to get to Cochrane from Airdrie?
-
Okay if I take the back roads I can be there at 8 15
Pat will be there with Nicky so Nick can get fed :) , And well Mike is a teen he'll eat more LOL but we should be done eating by 9
-
it all sounds good. Heading to the trail at 9 sounds good, otherwise it takes forever to leave Cochrane, then all of a sudden the days just starts to drag out and there would be no way of getting out by 6. I have a CB, as well as air should someone need. I can bring my high lift, but usually I just bring a scissor jack as it takes the last pin on my 4 foot jack just to get a tire off the ground. Scissors work great for me. I will throw in a axe and shovel. Anything else that you can think of, please let me know and I will plan from there.
See you tomorrow,
Randy
-

Im sure there is other people like my self who could stay and help if needed, i dont have to be home till monday so.... lol
-
Rob thanks for the CB offer to help but I am at work rather late again tonight so I don't think I will be able to take care of any antenna stuff. I am hoping however to get a CB soon.
See you at 9 at Smitty's

Howdy folks!!!!
Thanks to all for a wun & fonderful day out & about. Nice to finally make it out to Margaret Lake...what a nice spot!! Maybe try to get out to the falls in August.
If there is any one that would be willing to share any pics or vids of the trip, please PM me. Once I get my pics & vids sorted out I'll be willing to share too. Having the kids handle the camera, I'm not sure how they turned out :-\.
Hey Michie(I mean 'drowned rat'), hope you got all the guck outta your Yeep. Nice to go out for a trip in the great outdoors & not have any mechanical issues lengthen the day. Okay, had to break into some one's Jeep cuz they locked their keys in it. Hope they get an extra key cut soon :D. Or maybe gatorguard the entire inside of the Jeep & never have the top on again :o.
