new rig - 1948 CJ2A
« on: October 10, 2008, 11:17:10 PM »
Well, I've been working on this for a while now....Aug. 17th, I think, to be exact.  Been a long time coming, and I've been too scared to post about it, for fear of it actually not coming to fruition.

I'm now proud to say that I am the owner of a 1948 CJ2A

And special thanks to Craig for arranging this whole thing for me - we need to actually meet sometime.  ;D

We arrived at the place where the jeep has been stored just before 7:00, so too dark to get too many pictures.  Took a quick look over it, and started to load it up.

So the guy holding the jeep brought out a battery for us, and hooked it up to the winch. No go.  Nothing. Nothing at all. Like he said, there's only two wires, and the battery is good, so something must not be making contact or the winch is fried. Hmmm....fried 8274....not good. Anyways, I spied a switch on the back of the winch....and all of a sudden we had power.  :-[ ;D

So we winched her on very quickly and easy.....got to do the steering myself.  :D

Couple of more shots.

Here's to hoping I actually get to sleep tonight.  ;D

She's finally here.  This thing is going to seriously rock.  I rolled it off the trailer, hit the brakes, and the disc brakes on all four corners grabbed enough to leave some rubber on the pavement (wasn't going that fast either and no vaccuum). Definately a well built rig.

Some "jeep porn" for everyone, as my friend calls it:

Nice score.  What are the plans for it, put it to stock or lift it?   I don't think 4 wheel discs were stock in '48, but I could be wrong.

The only real thing stock is the tub...CJ diffs, disc brakes, power steering, ARB lockers front and rear, tilt steering, sm420 tranny, Warn 8274, CJ5 frame, etc.....

Definately NOT going back to stock....easier to start with another rig for that. lol

So am I...the thing isn't running right now, so I have to get an engine swap going.

Good score, you'll have to plan carefully to shoe horn all the goodies you want into her.
She's Cute, what kind os wheel base did the 2's have?

I don't think there's really any other goodies I want in her except a running engine.  :)

The 2a's had an 80" wheelbase...haven't measure this yet, but I bet it's a little longer.

Hey! nice pics buddy! Is that my old built Yj in the background? Can't tell if that is her or not.

Glad you figured out the winch, as I had the same problem about a year ago! And of coarse forgat to tell ya!
That rig doesn't need anything else other than the swap and a little loving  body touch ups, maybe some 33's too!
Did anyone slide by my place and get the soft top/doors?
You got my number if ya need to call while I am away.
Cheers, Craig

Not sure man....as we got there, it was getting pretty dark - by the time I looked the girl over, the next look I took at that rig all I could see was a boxy shape. Sounds like he has some cool toys around there, though.

I have honestly never used a winch, which actually ended up helping.  The guys weren't looking for a switch on the back of it, and when I saw it there, I figured if it was supposed to be on, then of course the guys would have switched it on.  So instead of looking like and arse and asking, I just watched them try to figure it out and make a connection.....I finally asked if the switch was on, and of course they gave me blank stare....turned switch, and zing zing.  ;)

The only thing that seems to be missing is the winch controller itself....Jennaya brought the soft top and doors....once the swap is done it will be a cold ride to my father-in-law's heated garage in Red Deer (you get major jeep points for driving a modified Willys with the windshield down on a cold day with no top, right?), and then I'll get the top on it.  Hopefully it's not going to be a huge mess getting all the little switches and gadgets working on it, as there are all kinds of toys to play with on this baby.

I can't remember if I told you or not, but one of the Eco guys was selling some compressors, and one of them was from this rig - he's currently holding it for me.
