lifting?
« on: April 13, 2009, 02:12:59 PM »
If I want to do a good lift to my XJ-  what would be a good lift - 3inch?      I want to keep the same size tries i have now, and make it still look and fucntion pretty good.  I got 235's on now, I think 16's but i havent checked - got the jeep on saturday ::)

I double check that size and reply - im at work, looking up jeep stuff, lol.

if you dont want to change tire size then dont put a lift in it. get a better tire and rim. and maybe upgrade the dampers. spend your money on bolt on widgets and gidgets;) lol!

LT235/75R15... maybe a 30/9.50R15...
a 3inch lift should clear 31" on stock offset rims.

I gave my stock XJ a 2" budget lift, this consisted of front spacers ($40 modern moters) and ranch leafs that are 2" higher than factory ($200 modern motors) this lift was cheep, did not affect any other parts on the XJ and did not affect the drivability of the jeep at all. it also gives a much nicer stance and does not give too much fender gap. i did this for the same reason, to fit nicer more aggresive tires on my XJ (although i cant afford them at the moment). also if you are planning to go higher in the future this is a cheep starter lift.

hope this helpes

Ya no prob, I'm acctually changing the read axel bearings tomorrow but not sure what time.  Have a tire change tomorrow morning first come first serve, then a quick trip to pnp to get some rear leafs to spruce up my back end  then I'll be home to do the work if your interested in coming for a beer while we change some parts

Well some people use 80's or 90's F-150 coil springs. I'm told it gets you about 3" of lift, but rides like arse because they are really stiff (meant for a fullsize truck with a V8 afterall)

How many inch's can you lift before you have to start changing other parts too? ie. control arms

Say from stock if I went with the Leaf springs from a S-10 then the front coil springs from a F-150 that would give me about 4 inch's in the rear and 3 inchs in the front (sound right?)   would I have the change anything else or can i just go to PNP and get rear leaf springs and front coil springs?

I'm goign to pnp on saturday so I might grab this stuff
