Made a 5W-20 "whoops"
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:34:18 PM »
I did my oil today and accidentally threw in a 5 quart bottle of 5W-20 and 1 quart of 5W-30 in the 4.0L. I noticed the noticed my mistake when i was recycling the bottles.

I was wondering if I should I change my oil right away or will the 20 be fine for a month or so (I am doing another oil change before I leave for a trip in July). The only time it's gonna really get up to full operating temperature is gonna be two trips between medicine hat and back. Other than that, it's about 7 km to work.

Note: its Penzoil Platinum Synthetic if that matters.

You may suffer from better fuel economy. If that is ok then wait to change it. You might see new leaks develop which can happen on older engines moving to synthetic

I wouldn't worry, now you have 5W-21.7 oil. Just don't tell the jeep.
