Your first car?
« on: September 07, 2010, 03:59:02 AM »

My daughter is getting old enough to drive soon and she was asking me if I could help her buy her first car. I'm thinking about fixing up my old Volkswagen Golf and give it to her if she gets good marks at school this year. Do you guys remember your first car or truck that you bought? I got a hand me down Dodge Colt that had no first gear. Any interesting vehicles or stories for your first car?
My grandma hasn't been helping me out as much as she used to

I also had an old Topaz, ugly as sin, fairly gutless, and not great on gas, but it got me from A to B, and put up with a lot of abuse from both me and my brother.

'81 Honda Civic. Man I rallied/beat the crap out of that car! Traded it for a '73 Dodge club cab short box 4X4. Wish I still had that truck....

Also had a '76 Mustang II at one point as well with a hopped up 289, hood scoop, ladderbars, etc. HUGE cop magnet and probably the biggest POS I ever owned and the only Ford I ever owned.

Wife's first car was an '81 AMC Eagle SX/4. The little hatchback model. I had a wagon and she had the SX/4. Looked pretty cool sitting in front of the house.

THAT's the one we both REALLY wish we still had.

My Wife and I had a late 80''s Lada Samara given to us as our first car when we were still dating... we gave it back at the end of the summer, do I win for having the crap car yet?

Ummmmm.... no.

'87 LADA NIVA 4x4 (you know, looks like a lifted Mini...), 1600, 4 spd, complete with spare (under the hood), CRANK START for those cold Calgary mornings, and a POS stereo with 2 speakers. Went through as much oil as gas.
Damn do I miss it.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.
Here's your cup of STFU... ENJOY!
