TJ rims what should I do?
« on: November 02, 2010, 11:34:53 AM »
picked up these rims off Kijiji.  not sure what i want to do with them as of yet.  some of them have some clear coating issues and i'm not sure if i should paint these puppies with tremclad, or just leave them as is.

or if someone knows how to clean up the aluminum so the bad ones don't look so bad i'm listening.

what do you think?

A wire wheel might gouge pretty bad and it'd be awkward to get into some spaces on the wheels.  One of the fellows at the office here striped the coating off his mazda 3 wheels last fall.  Just put some sort of goop on them and it eats the coating off.  I believe it washes off after that.  Then you'd just have to buff them.  I guess it depends on how nice you want them to look.
This is not 'Nam, this is wheeling.  There are rules.

I think Top Gun coatings can do it John. Just wire wheel it, clean it well, prime well and then paint. Its held up fine for mine.

Yep, Top Gun Coatings has refinished Wheels for me in the past.
They do really good work. I've had things done on my Harley, and my hot rod.

Consolidated Compressor in the foothills area is a DIY sandblasting place. I believe they charge by the minute.

The goop is aircraft paint remover it eats and gells the paint, then it just washes off. Then I'd go and get some duplicolor gunmetal 0r graphite wheel paint and spray them with that.

gunmetal 0r graphite would look sweet. Or even chrome paint. Just be careful to not get the paint running.... it will look worse than normal paint that has runs in it.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.
