Who has suffered damage due to the cold?
« on: January 29, 2008, 09:19:50 PM »
Man it cold.  :(
So who has suffered damage due to the cold, even the best maintained rig will suffer due to this cold.
I personally got one of those custom rounded out battery's. At work we have lots of issues, nothing wants to start, new equipment coming up from the south has gelled fuel, frost plugs out, and even hyd fluid that wound pump.  :-\
So lets hear if anyone has experienced anything.
Why does your Jeep say Toyota on it?
The obstacle is the path.

uhmmm... where to start. At work... cant load/unload trucks because the powerlift gates don't move. Mission critital equipment stuck on a truck....Forklifts suddenly die... it's great! Unloading a 3ton Hino loaded full of metal cases down a ramp at 8am was a blast.

And my tranny hates 2nd gear all the sudden.

The plastic dogs/clips that hold the shifter boot broke, now the shifter boot flaps around until the plastic warms up and it sits back down.

Thinks this weekend I'm gonna replace plastic with a metal frame to hold the boot down.

I used to work outside at the airport loading and deicing planes with WestJet. Please....in this weather, don't get mad at the people out there on the ramp, they're doing their best and alot of times they're out there working for hours at a time.

My truck's new radiator decided to start leaking from the end tank, so I had to buy a new one and send the old one back to see if I can get a refund under the warranty. And now the brand new one is busted from cheap manufacturing.

I was wonderin if any of you guys could tell me why my '07 jeep wrangler sounds like the gears are grinding to crap when i first start it up. All i do is put in the clutch and turn the key and it sounds like its dying for bout 2 seconds whether i take my foot off the clutch or not.
And of course 2nd is a pain till it warms up for a bit.

Oh work wise i was on holidays and had to pick up a part time job cause concrete doesnt like the cold and neither does my truck.
Good luck to yall over the next few weeks

Nathan was mentioning the starter sticking on their new heep.  i remember my 97 avenger when -1 or colder there was always a grrrrrrrrrrrr sound after starting.  took it in and left it overnight and the dealership said there was no sound, even though it happened every single time for like 2 months.

anyway, our liberty does it at about -10 or colder most of the time.  my gmc van did it yesterday but i never plug it in.  i'm not convinced it is the starter or if it is, that it is the gears crunching.  the avenger went 8 years doing this every wintery start - even if it was just sitting a few hours in the day it would do it again.  never a starter issue.

the sound was more like a vibration as well.  i remember on really cold days like this week, the avenger would make the noise for 30 seconds or more after starting, revving would make it louder but never sounded faster.  eventually i ignored it like i do now.

well.. I got Angry Sparrows living in the front drive shaft, and now this morning there is a Frog living in the dashboard lol! If the Heep keeps this up it'll have mice living in the tailpipe!

plus a sticky starter.

yj did this monday - slight whirl to the starter after it was running,  next startup I noticed the ignition wasnt returning all the way to running pos so I gave it a little help ... seems to have gone away or coincidence ...

also - liberty makes some brutal sounds on startup ...

Not alone....not alone....I'm not alone.

TJ Cold
- Shifter boot = off.
- Clutch pushed to floor, took 2 mins before it came back up.
- Drivers door lock no worky
- Drivers door lever broke off (interior)
- Passenger door wouldn't unlock (crawled in through rear gate this morn - limbo under Highlift)
- Defrost not pushing air to windshield...but my feet are warm
- TRXUS display bias ply "flat spots" for first 4-5 blocks of driving

XJ Cold
- Remote start's range INCREASED by 50%!
- increased vibration in Full Time AWD (Select-Trac)
- windshield wipers now "quiver"

The starter in the 88 is not liking this cold , 185 lbs cranking pressure doesn't help, i'll be lucky if the starter makes it thru this .It's been dunked and packed with mud many times and starting to sound funny , the one way clutch is slipping  when it's low twenties or colder. The seats are pretty solid for the first ten minutes , other than that , all is good. My new cold air intake sounds mean 8)

Oh  ya , hard tops are for sissies.

well well...I purchased my jeep in november...had it a week and well due to the cold and the city using rocks for the road i got my windshield cracked...There should be a voucher that you get everytime you drive on deer foot for a new windshield.  Also last week another rock decided to take out my headlight....I guess me and deerfoot just don't work.  Can't wait for summer...ahhhhhhhhhhh 8)
