I just don't understand WHY they allow someone without an OHV to be allowed to camp in an OHV area? Why not have someone at the gate checking people in and if they don't have an OHV they can squirt off and if they do, they need to register their OHV before they are allowed in.
I don't understand why user fees, banning alcohol, closing the area to wheeling after dark, no random camping etc isn't a priority when all of the responsible users of the areas are pushing for these things to happen! Well, I digress... I do understand. It's because the government WANTS us to fail. Some loser takes his brand new work truck through a mud hole, the Herald publishes it & all of a sudden he is grouped in as "an offroad enthusiast". I'm sorry but driving your pickup through a frikken mudhole isn't offroading, nor is it responsible use of the area.
I think we need to be recognized for the hours and hours of volunteer work we do each year to clean these up. The government went out with 20 trucks & cleaned? WTF?? When did this happen?? When we were pulling that abandoned Nissan out of McLean last year (took us 10 hours, btw), we saw ONE SRD guy on a quad at the end of the day who asked us what we were doing, said "oh we were going to get to that vehicle sometime next year", thanked us for our efforts as he stood along the sidelines for about 20 mins taking pictures and then went on his way.
We do all the work & SRD gets the praise. It will always be like that. We need to do something like we did last year...
