Ladies & Gentlemen giffer is correct, the sun ran a page as well as the tv ran the story a couple of times, it is not looking good for the sport and recreation that we have chosen to follow which is unfortunate.
Where Im currently working I get to talk to some individuals who work for SRD, and fish and wildlife and they are fully aware of the grad parties and out of control people who go to such places to use and abuse the very things we are trying to protect but alas  the same old song is being sung, the one bad apple, the few who spoil the things for the many and so on and so forth.
It appeared to be mainly alcohol and drugs that were considered to be among the highest of tickets issued and this I personally believe to be the root of the problem, dont get me wrong as i like a drink or two but also value my license way more, some of you fine people might disagree but an alcohol and any kind of non prescription drug ban would be the way i would personally vote for.

Ok im done with my words and thank you for reading,
regards and happy wheelin

Darren

Hey unionjack,
I'm pretty sure there is a "non-prescription drug" ban everywhere in North america. It's not working so well. But an alcohol ban works for me, It's pretty easy to find a  case of beer in the back of a pick up truck
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

YAHOO!  Global News is coming out again.  Just arranging the meeting time & place with Vanessa Lee the reporter.

When we talk with the reporter we may want to think of what we want to tell her before she puts us on the spot.  Personally I would love to tell her that some of the responsible off roaders of Alberta supported a petition asking the Government to close McLean Creak in advance of the May long weekend.  I would also like to add that our request was ignored by the Government because the SRD has more clout to close the park when they show it ripped up and damaged.  If they had closed it and there was no damage it would be difficult to close the park as they have no ammunition to win public support!!!

What do you think??  Am I wrong in my assumption's?  Unfortunately I bet I am 100% correct in my assumption. >:(

I doubt SRD wants a park to close. Without parks there would be no need for an SRD.
As for the damage, It will be as bad as Global wants it to be. Why is it the helicopter view of the area never shows the clear cutting  and  other industies operating in the area?   :(

Unionjack,
There are many PRESCRIPTION and over the counter drugs that are as bad or worse than alcohol. In my clinic i see many folks on these daily and i can not imagine driving on some of them.
i digress...
An alcohol ban seen in provincial parks is the way to go.

As far as what do we tell the media?
Simple.
Ted Morton and SRD failed us again.
Lip service fines but none with any bite. Where was the ENFORCEMENT of people off trails?
Where was the ENFORCEMENT of  campers leaving garbage?
Where was the ENFORCEMENT of campers  creating mud bogs off trail?
Rick Blackwood is quoted as saying that his office and members from the community used 20 pick up trucks to haul garbage last year...
really? because i never saw any SRD haul anything. It was US, not them.
Check this article out, Mortron actually seems AWARE of the problems while Blackwood wants us GONE!

I just don't understand WHY they allow someone without an OHV to be allowed to camp in an OHV area?   Why not have someone at the gate checking people in and if they don't have an OHV they can squirt off and if they do, they need to register their OHV before they are allowed in.

I don't understand why user fees, banning alcohol, closing the area to wheeling after dark, no random camping etc isn't a priority when all of the responsible users of the areas are pushing for these things to happen!  Well, I digress... I do understand.  It's because the government WANTS us to fail.  Some loser takes his brand new work truck through a mud hole, the Herald publishes it & all of a sudden he is grouped in as "an offroad enthusiast".  I'm sorry but driving your pickup through a frikken mudhole isn't offroading, nor is it responsible use of the area.

I think we need to be recognized for the hours and hours of volunteer work we do each year to clean these up.  The government went out with 20 trucks & cleaned?  WTF??  When did this happen??  When we were pulling that abandoned Nissan out of McLean last year (took us 10 hours, btw), we saw ONE SRD guy on a quad at the end of the day who asked us what we were doing, said "oh we were going to get to that vehicle sometime next year",  thanked us for our efforts as he stood along the sidelines for about 20 mins taking pictures and then went on his way.

We do all the work & SRD gets the praise.  It will always be like that.   We need to do something like we did last year... http://youtube.com/watch?v=7PItwyjSSdM  straight to the point...
