40" on an XJ?

well 39.5" IROK's and If I go with a different tire brand it would be 40's. with the 36" IROK's it just looks to small for this build and the 39's will accomondate the 110" wheel base better.

It's not actually an XJ anymore. As soon as Raf built a frame for it, it became a YJ. Now he just needs to fix the hard top so that it is easier to take off.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

I had to redo the motor mounts, I did not like the bastard version I had where it bolted through the frame, so here is an updated version. also got the front drive shaft in and made up my Long arm links. And started mounting the body with 1" body mounts from a CJ7.

Ohhh Raf... you know how we feel about body lifts... ESPECIALLY on an XJ....  ::)
I did a Google search for "hot trannies" but nothing came up about oil coolers  :o

Worrying too much about mpg with a Jeep is similar to worrying about your sister's virginity. An ok thing to be concerned about but...

Got the lower links all tacked in. Now working on the upper links, I got the front truss/link mount tube bent up, just need to install it maybe tonight.

so i got the upper links finished today.

came to a clerance issue with driveshaft and upper link. I will need a 2" body lift and I will need to raise the uppers about 1" up higher than they are. I ordered some browndog motor mounts which lift the motor up 1" easier than redoing the motor mounts again.

lots of tedious work of getting it right.

Small update. Had some time in the garage today. I started on the rear suspension. I got the skid all tacked together and bolted up ready to start on the rear link mounts.

Drilled holes in the frame, and welded in dom tube inserts (crush sleave) this is where the skid/cross-member bolts onto, did this for the front and rear of the skid.

and the skid, which will be plated with 1/8" plate with dimples for strength.

21" belly clerance

got the rear links all cut to length

I also wanted to share some tips and tricks when welding.

A great way to weld up holes or in my case two pices of angled 1/4 plate. is to use some brass.

In order to weld these two pices of metal together with a flat surface on the inside, I used some 2" brass plate.

clamped it all together to give me my 2" inside width, clamped the brass plate and welded it all up

and the final result is a welded mount with a flat even weld on the inside that does not require grinding, which would be almost impossible.

this trick works great when you want to weld up holes.

i got some holes in the floor

I got the rear links all tacked/welded up. Time to close up the holes in the floor and reinforce the floor a bit

rear at full bump

once i get the floor done i'll move onto the rear coilovers

Started setting up my coilovers

This is at full compression with 36" iroks, 39.5" will be going in instead.

Re did the front 4-link, and With Trevors help installed coilovers in the front.

All links and coilovers are finally installed, suspension flexed to check for any binding and interference. So Now it needs to be all welded up, and gustets installed.

At ride height with 36's.

Depending on what you have access too a piece of aluminum will also work for that welding trick.
